I mean, come on... it's not like we're from another planet or have horizontally-oriented (pardon the pun) body parts. What is with bamboo fever, anyway? Me, I've always wanted an Acura NSX.

The bamboo fever, as you call it, is coming from the idea that Asian culture is seen as sophisticated. And, the women are seen as exotic with soft physical features. However, I wouldn't take it as a compliment when someone says that to you. I'm not Asian, but I wouldn't like it if a guy said, "Gosh, I've always wanted to date a white woman!" That's insulting because it makes me wonder if he is picking someone based on race, which is just as bad as NOT picking a date based on date. Also, it's like he is using you as a trophy.

PS Bamboo fever is one very funny way of putting it. Mind if I use that? lol

Take it as a compliment only if he has an NSX. He can have his asian girl, and you can drive his car. HAHAHA NO just kidding...
It's a compliment on the one hand, but kind of a slap in the face on the other. It's too impersonal to really be a compliment.

I wouldn't. It would be a red flare going up. Does he like me because of me or does he like me because of my ethnicity? Why does he want an Asian woman. Oh I know what all the stereotypes, image, and perceptions of what Asian women are like/supposed to be. I want him to take a good hard look at himself and tell me exactly what it is that he's attracted to. Why Asian and not others? It wouldn't be a very pleasant conversation either.

You can substitute "asian" for "african-american" or "white" and this conversation would be the same.

When guys (maybe except for asian guys) say, "I've always wanted an Asian woman." they are saying that they want to date you. Happy?

Asian women are considered exotic (facial features) and for submissiveness.
My sister gets that ALL the time, too.

I'm Half Korean/Half Black - and I've heard the same thing from women I've dated...
