Cats are independant and are easier to care for then dogs. Now, I have both and get different things from each animal, but my cat is more like me in that he is too busy coming and going to care how much attention he gets. I don't have to walk him, bathe him, or track him down when he's gone too long. He always finds his way home.

I grew up very much a dog person; cats were ok but you couldn't really play with them much (at least not the ones I was exposed to) like you could with dogs. I adopted my grandmothers cat 3 years ago and absolutely adore her. She's so much fun to play with, to cuddle and just to have around. I lived without a pet for 8 years and I don't know how I did now that I have my little girl. They're just great company, someone who's glad to see you when you get home.

As everyone on here has stated: low maintenance, cute, cuddly, independent, intelligent, playful, affectionate, loyal, etc.

We have both cats and dogs. Our cats are indoor, but visitors have never been able to tell because we keep the litter boxes clean, and feed and groom our cats regularly and responsibly.
(We always advise visitors that we have cats. This usually comes as a surprise to everyone because, not only do they not see the cats, they do not SMELL the cats.)

Our next door neighbor has two cats and a dog but should NEVER be allowed to have pets. Their two cats DO roam the neighborhood spraying and destroying everything in sight. Their neighbors (including us) have repeatedly told them about the cats but they ignore the suggestions or complaints. Because they leave BIG bowls of cat food outside, they complain of problems with rats and raccoons.

The key to pet ownership is: Being a responsible owner.

We are. Our neighbor (and others mentioned in posters comments) are not and should not be allowed to have flesh and blood pets of any kind.

This is why pet rocks were invented.

Probably for the same reason others enjoy birds, dogs, hamsters, etc. as pets: the establish a relationship with them that has enduring significance.

As a cat owner, who has one cat that's 19 and another that's 18, I can tell you that my cats have been my pals all along, in good times and bad. I'm sure there are plenty of dog/bird/hamster owners who would make the same claim.

I like both dogs and cats but I have cats because they're independent. Depends on your lifestyle I suppose. I'm too busy to worry about getting home on time to take them out to go the bathroom or potty train a puppy. Cat's are just easy.

I love my cat Printzee, he is so precious to me ! Cats have had a bad rap for many years , and I think it is time to set the record straight. They are very affectionate , yes, when they want it ! Which suits me fine. They are unique in their personality , they require hardly any work at all , they clean themselves , do their business by themselves , can be left alone by themselves, they are the perfect pet. They greet you when you come home form work , and are happy to see you . They are loveable and loyal as well as dogs . So , cats really are great pets, and I think it's time to bury the myth that they are sneaky and unfriendly . I love my cat so much , I love spending time home alone with him . He is so adorable !

I don't! We have a summer cottage and the neighbor had over 100 cats I am not kidding we finally had animal control come in and remove them , so the reason I hate cats is because of these cats they **** in my yard you could not walk 2 steps without a pile of ****! they would get on my car and left paw prints and scratches, they destroyed the screened in porch, they spray cat piss on the doors, everything reeked so bad when it was 90 and humid out you could not stand to be outside from the stench, so that is the reason the only cat I like is a dead cat!

Because they're less maintainance than dogs. Unlike dogs, you don't have to take a cat for a walk, make sure it gets exercise, or get it on a pooping schedule.

Cats are mostly independant. When they have to goto the bathroom, they go. When they want to play, they play. They can amuse themselves to no end.
But they're also very affectionate when they want to be, they're extremely intelligent, and are so freaking cute.

Not all cats are "aloof." If you get the right breed, such as a Burmese or Bombay, you can have a dog's personality in a cat's body. Less work and just as much love.

they are so great! they're very affectionate & do the funniest things. they're cute & cuddly, and they're great for stress reduction. (i hafta have cuddle time with my kitties when i get home from work every day!) not to mention you don't have to worry about taking them outside to do their business, so if you work all day--no accidents! and they're clean without baths. i even have a cat that plays fetch! they all have such distinct personalities!

and i just don't like dogs. their too rambunctious for me, and i was bitten and chased all the time by the neighbor dogs when i was little, but that's just me
