Kids awake and sleep patterns vary. 5 hours may be all he can handle if he is playing hard during that time. Let him nap when he is tired but make sure he is also getting enough sleep during the night.

Kids need 10-12 hours of sleep a day, so if he is getting up that early he needs to take a nap sometime during the day. My son is 2 1/2 and he takes a nap for 2-3 hours around 1-2pm.

That depends on his activities in the morining. Maybe he is over working out early in the morning. If you don't get enough exercise, Eat right, drink plenty of water and get enough vitamen intake or sleep you can exhaust yourself. Sometimes stress can ware you out quick too. He could also be a night person. Meaning he is more alert during the night and sleepier during the day. Either way going to the doctor for a check up should give you some hints as to what is going on.

my son is 17 months fixing to be 18 months and suprizing he is like your son he gets up about 7:30 ish and then wants a nap around 12:30 and then if he is active (running and playing) he will be tired again around 6 ish. So this is normal.

No it doesn't...but what is "normal" for one child may differ in another...that said, I would write down when this started, how long it's been going on, and then make an appointment with his Dr to see what he thinks...I suggest writing it down because most of the time, when we get in to Dr's offices, we tend to forget a lot of the facts...and some may be important without you knowing it...
I would most certainly schedule him for a check-up...
