hi, i recently upgraded my laptop to windows vista and it slowed it down considerably.
i don't know why this happened, i have waaay more than what is required to run vista.
i was wondering if i could system restore the system back to when XP was installed (only a few weeks ago) or if an os upgrade creates new restore points?

Once you upgrade to a new version of windows you can't go back without reformatting and reinstalling.

Sorry, but that's how Microsoft did it to force people to get used to new software.

Good Luck!

Your delimma highlights the importance of reading as much as you can about new stuff before buying and installing it, as well as considering what to do if you want to back up.

What I read says it's a bigger resource HOG than XP, and that all your peripherals won't work without new drivers which have to be developed by printer companies, etc., AND that many of the features won't work on current hardware.

Microsoft did distribute a Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor that scans your system and tells you what will and what won't work right on Vista. So, I've decided to wait until I need a new machine, then buy one made to accomodate Vista.

Good Luck

Hi, myself is in the same problem after joined Window Live, which pull serious slow down even locked not searchable for other website. Last week I contact with MSN reporting about this problem and request them help. I found the problem is slightly solved but not all sattled down yet.

Try send some notes into MSN telling your problems wishing them to improve. Vista is still not widely open for every body, so MSN still need suggestions too. Your problems might be the elements as they want to know. Try it!

I don't think a system restore is going to cut it.

If you have your XP CD, back up all the data that you can then reinstall a fresh copy of XP.

Also take note of what programs you have installed now, because you will need to reinstall them.

If you want to learn about why Vista caused your computer to slow down you should read this short article from Forbes Magazine.
