on the floors of hair Salons?
Imagine how many people with cancer who have lost their hair could benefit from the retrieval of that hair.

What would you think about starting a National Drive,or supporting one, to help in the recovery of this presious resourse for the manufacturing of more wigs?

Of course there would have to be the support of Sponsers in order to be able to pay for the costs of such an event ie. Making the wigs free of charge to the recipients etc.

Any Ideas? Do you think that it could work?

Yes, to those who answered that it is already being done. However, I have seen a lot of women getting their hair cut and the assistant sweeping it up and into the garbage. Maybe we could do more?

I grow my hair out long, then donate it every few years to the Locks of Love program, they make wigs for sick people who have lost thier hair as a result of chemotherapy and such. Ask your hairdresser about it, and if the salon you go to dosn't collect donations, find one that does. Locks of Love requires that the hair you donate needs to be at least 10" long, they would prefer 12 or more inches. And your hair needs to be in good condition, and should not be overprocessed with dye and bleaching, although I understand that they will take dyed hair if it is in good condition. I just did a quick web search, and found that they have a web site, you can learn more about it by going to:

Additional answer in response to your additional question. You can't "make" someone donate thier hair, and the salons don't automatically collect it for locks of love if you don't offer it. It is also possible that although the hair being swept up looks long, it might not be quite long enough, or not in good enough conditon. Maybe it is that women don't know about it, even though it is a well publicized organization. Perhaps a good use for your benevolent impulse would be to find a way to get involved with the organization, and look for a way to help them get the word out...

sorry to crush your benevolent dreams but there is already a foundation that you can donate your hair to when you get it cut. it has to be at least 10 inches minimum to be used in a wig
