check her bank statements for old checks or credit card bill to see who she paid for the insurance, and there may be a copy with the state or town office if they require that.

ok as you talk of a 'producer' and the police i guess you are in good old blighty,,,,, and as most others have said you should start with the question of how do you pay for it?? given that car insurance is always very expensive she must remember that bit, if she cant remember payin then i cant really believe that she has got the cover and in the UK you cant go and buy cover and get it backdated that is illegal and no broker will do it. If you daughter is absolutely convinced that she has cover their is one last option, which is to ask the police, they can search the motor insurance companies database which lists every insurance policy in the UK and is constantly updated if she isn't on that database and she cant prove shes got cover with some company which has itself broken the law in not updating the motor insurance database, then she has no cover and will get an N10 endorsement to her driving licence ( which will make the next lot of insurance go through the roof)and a fine , these days in London they also impound the car .So i hope they fine her cover on the IMD but i guess that if they had found it they wouldn't be asking her for it. Sorry

umm if she is serious, she will probably not find it through the dmv as they do insurance monitoring in most states that is random.
Also a lot of people DO NOT pay their auto insurance every month, some people really very infrequently.
I would recommend either way she get on the ball and get a policy ASAP!! It is not too late, a lot of companies will well never mind just tell her to go pay somebody like gmac

Well, who does she pay every month? She should at least have some record on her bank information?? hopefully??
Even if she does it online, she would have records of bank drafts or something, surely.
Good luck with this. I do hope she learns to keep the insurance cards they send her in the car. I also hope she's kept up the payments, and it 's a reputable company.
This may be the time to explain, instead of explode. Kids don't usually understand the meaning of papers and the processes behind the paperwork, so they don't keep good records.
Just consider this a "bought" lesson... and it'll be one she doesn't soon forget, so there is a silver lining in all of this.

Your daughter has really got you fooled, hasn't she! And the word "idiot" is the LEAST of what she is. No one has to produce documents, lady. All she needs is a certificate of insurance. You know, that little card that you carry in your wallet and/or glove compartment of your car. The idea she tells you she cannot recall to whom she paid her premium, indicates to me that SHE NO LONGER HAS ANY INSURANCE and/or IT GOT CANCELLED somewhere along the way, or she NEVER HAD IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! Come on, wake up. She is flim-flamming you with a pack of lies. Do you honestly believe she cannot recall with whom she is insured? (Hint: She is NOT INSURED, period!)

It's not the policy that you have to produce but the certificate. That's the only bit that shows current insurance cover. Is it with the MOT cert?

She must have paid for it,
so the premium payment should show in her bank account,
and it will also give the name of the insurance .company
She can then, contact that insurance company
who will give her details, of her current insurance
And send her a copy
She must do that, as a matter of urgency .
So she can give the police, all the necessary information .
Children Sigh!!

My guess is that she's lying and doesn't actually have insurance. She has to pay a bill each month! Have her go through her bills and her check book/register or her online banking history and see if she can prove it.
Otherwise I'm betting that she was hoping no one would call her bluff.
