I have a parakeet and when I first got him I never saw him drinking. I have had him for about 8 months now and I rarely see him drinking. He does drink more now than he did when I first got him.

Make sure that their water is always fresh and clean. My parakeet's water doesn't ever get dirty. I do change at night and in the morning.

Since you are a new bird owner you might find this book useful:

Parakeet: Your Happy Healthy Pet by Julie Rach Mancini

I got it when I first got my Parakeet. It is a very good book. It tells you everything you need to know when bringing home a new parakeet and how to train them to step up, potty train them, health problems, and much more. It cost $12.99 at Borders. You can get it cheaper at www.amazon.com.

I hope your kids have fun with their parakeets I know I love mine. With some work they can be very affectionate. I have trained my bird to shake hands, turn around once, and turn around twice all on command.

do you have their water hanging in a tube on the side of their cage, or on the bottom? All of the ones I have had in the past will not drink from anything on the bottom of their cage.
They are probably drinking and just not letting you see them...mine do the same thing.
