I agree with other answerers; if there is no history of peanut allergy, I would personally not be concerned with eating it-- IN MODERATION-- during pregnancy.
Some other alternatives, though--
Peabutter (made from... brown peas?);
Sunflower butter, great if you love sunflower seeds, notsomuch if you don't;
Cashew butter-- VERY much like PB
Almond butter
We thought one of our children was allergic to peanuts for a while-- it showed up on his blood tests, but he's never EVER had the slightest reaction. We stopped using it for about 6 months and retested, which showed no change in his levels, then reintroduced it for another 6 months; still no changes. So the docs gave us the OK for him to keep eating it after that. But for six months, we were trying every PB alternative on the market because this kid LOVES his PB! His personal favorite was the Peabutter. Mine was cashew butter. Both run about $5 or so per 15-18 oz. jar.

I have had four children. I went to a midwife for three of my pregnancies and a doctor for one. I was never told EVER I should not eat peanut butter. I can't imagine why a health care provider would tell anyone this unless you had an allergy or if they were referring to the recent peanut butter recall that affected some of the Wal Mart brands and the Peter Pan brands of peanut butter. Peanut butter is a great, fairly healthy snack. Call a doctor or a nutritionist for another opinion, but I say have yourself some peanut butter.

Every study I have seen suggests that the risks of eating peanuts are only high for people with a strong family history of nut allergens. However not many studies have been done on the general population.
However were you to avoid all of the top 9 allergens: soy, dairy, wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, shellfish, eggs, sulphites. You would surely die (ok not really but in this society those are in almost everything).
You could try other nut butters like almond or cashew. They are more expensive but they are supposed to be healthier. Flax butter is supposed to be good for you, but some say that is hype. At least flax isn't on the list! *lol*.
However, there is evidence that getting less that 100g of protein per day increases the risks of toxemia and some other problems during pregnancy. Lack of protein could be why you are craving peanut butter.
Info on why protein and a good diet are important:

Why can't you eat peanut butter?? I'm 40 weeks pregnant and I eat peanut butter almost everyday! They say that the only reason that you shouldn't eat it when you are pregnant is if you have a history of peanut allergies in your family, otherwise, it's fine!
So if you don't have any history of peanut allergies... go eat some peanut butter!!
Edit: Here is a website that tells you about peanuts and peanut butter during pregnancy!

I don't understand why you can't eat peanuts or peanut butter due to pregnancy? I am pregnant, and I eat it with no problems. Ask your doctor, but there should be no problem with eating peanuts or peanut butter unless you are allergic or unless there is a strong family history of nut allergies.
You just might be being overly-cautious.

I don't get why you can't eat it. My midwife encouraged it, but not over board. Since peanut allergies are getting very common, it is important not to eat tons of peanut butter during pregnancy and lactation, but it's important to eat a variety of food period.
I eat all natural peanut butter with just peanuts and salt. It's a super healthy snack. Go for it!

Flufferbutter??
LOL, it really taste nothing like peanut butter, it's kind of like a mashmellow taste. BUT, I make my son PB & Flufferbutter sandwiches a lot and if I was in your position, I would make a sandwich with that... mostly b/c of the texture, it's a lot like PB.
I know how HORRIBLE pregnancy cravings can be, especially when you can't have it, try to focus on something else you can have. Good luck!

why are midwives telling you that you can't eat peanuts or peanut butter, if there is no history of peanut allergies? I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches like they were the last food on earth while I was pregnant.
this just doesn't make any sense.

Yes Rebecca, peanuts contain trace toxins.
Never really heard of anyone being forbidden to eat peanuts during pregnancy...but?
You can probablly satisfy this craving for peanutbutter by making your own various nut butters.
you can use any of the following nuts or seeds...
pecans, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds.
Just spread nuts out onto a baking sheet, sprinkle lightly with canola oil and sea salt. Roast in 325 degree oven for 12- 15 min. maybe longer...
let cool, then use food processor or blender... you can even choose smooth or chunky.

Cravings are an indicator of allergy,sounds strange,but true.Which peanut butter are you craving,all natural or the kind that's loaded with icing sugar?If plain peanut butter does not fulfil your craving ,you may actually be addicted to the sugar which is a leading cause of allergic response in all it's forms.
