I HAVE MEDIUM LENGTH THICK HAIR. WAS THINKING OF GETTING IT THINNED AND LAYERED? HELP

Thinned and layered sound good. Really choppy cuts always look nice with perhaps a side fringe or just shaped around your face.
Make sure that you don't get too obsessed with your hair being down and end up ruining it. Mine started to do that :(

i think that layering is a good idea. that way you can have nice sexy bits that fall down around your face. I think that a side fringe would also be nice and would look great when your hair is in a bun. perhaps get some subtle highlights through your hair just to break up the block of colour and this will help stop it from looking too severe when in a bun. If you get a t bar and not a full head, be sure to tell the colourist that you wear your hair back alot so you need extra highlights on the side of your face.

First loose the Bun... Not in style. But I congratulate you for wanting to change.

I myself have thick hair the most flattering cuts is what you mentioned in your question..
