a bad infection. There is a certain area on the lump that bleeds (it seems he's been picking at it & irritating it) when he bumps it, etc. Is there anything I can do to make leave it alone? Will it stop bleeding when the area heals? Can he be ok? Please help! I want to do my best for him.
Thank you!

It sounds like a fatty lymphoma. Cockatiels who haven't eaten proper food all their life seem to get it. It can be a sign of more serious things like fatty liver disease. My vet gave me a cream to put on his wing and when I ran out of that I used polysporin. Make sure he has lots of things to keep him occupied, if he's bored he'll pick at it more. I saw someone else recommended one of those collars but I don't know if they come small enough for cockatiels. It's something the vet should put on so it fits right.

Well, there should've been antibiotics given to you to either treat infection or prevent infection. The bleeding is a concern because birds can bleed to death rather easily and you don't want him losing too much blood. The best way to prevent him from picking at it is an E-Collar. There are several websites that teach you how to make one, I'd suggest checking it out. If you don't want to make one, you can buy one from PetsMart or PetCo or your vet.

If this vet didn't give you antibiotics and a follow up visit, then go see another vet ASAP. Preferably and avian vet.

You can get a satelite collar for birds to keep him from picking at it. PLEASE see another vet, this one doesn't sound like he did anything!

Did the vet biopsy the lump? Take blood for a work up? Insist on tests. I know it will be expensive, but it is worth it.

Did the Vet look at it? if he did wasnt there an antibiotic given? If it is hurting the bird is going to pick it. The lump needs to be treated in order to make it go away otherwise if it isnt infected now, it will get that way from the bird always picking at it.

Swap a bowl of pasta for a bowl of vegetables. You can spend less to 200 calories by cutting the starch and adding fruit and vegetables.

Be a kid yet again! When eating out, order a new child’s sandwich, pizza or hamburger. Then you can have the treats you love, while reducing your portions and cutting your calorie intake.
