I think the full version of Adobe Acrobat does it, as would a number of its competitors (though Acrobat is best). It's quite expensive, so make sure it can before parting with your hard-earned cash. You can download a free 30-day trial. I'd happily trust the Adobe trial software, but can't't vouch for any other program.

There are *lots* of pieces of software that'll convert a Word document to a pdf document. One huge piece of software, if you care to download it, is OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org). It's hard to find a piece of software that'll convert a pdf to a doc, in fact I'm gonna watch this question in case someone tells you of one!
