A peculiar question and some strange answers.
Breaking the speed of light was impressive (BTW, speed of light is ~1,86,000 mph), how come I missed that great event???
From the owners heart to a tall building, it can break a lot of things including itself. But speed of sound would be the answer you were seeking.
Now "modern" needs a definition, the 787 is modern jet, but the sound barrier is beyond it.

You're probably referring to the sound barrier. If you can go over about 770 mph in the jet, it will break the sound barrier.
Added: An aside to shadewhit. Wow, you have the jet breaking the speed of light, 386,000 mph. In that case, it would break Einstein's law of relativity, and probably move in time so it would land before it took off.

depends on the type of jet.. but they can go even at mach 4 which is 4x the speed of sound

sonic boom....speed of light is broken by a jet...or u can say it travels on mach! It also breaks someone's will to travel again by the cheapest airlines.
