I've heard a lot of people bashing James Camron lately over the Jeus Movie. My question is way would he make this movie? He has to know that it's going to end his career, which I find sad.

I don't believe the story...I find it has to many holes. I'm open to the idea but it would take a lot to convince me.

But can someone explain to me why he would do this? To make money isn't a good answer because this is a career ending move.

Why would this end his career?

There are a growing number of people that believe the Savior married and possibly had children. Christians among them. After all, the Savior was baptized to fulfill all righteousness (IE: Obey all his Father's commandments). So why wouldn't he also follow his Father's commandment to marry and cleave unto his spouse. And to multiply and replenish the earth.

There's also the little fact that none of us understand exactly how the resurrection works. We know that our bodies will be perfected and rise from the grave. But what does that entail? There is no way to know what impure parts of our bodies will be left behind in our graves. Thus the source of the DNA they found in the supposed grave of the Savior.

This story, whether it's true or false, does not damage the divinity of the Savior if you have proper Faith in him and a true understanding of his life.

If what he said is true, he needs to answer a few questions.

How does having a place to be buried show that you were buried there and stayed there? Wouldn't they have already bought an ossuary when Jesus died? And what about the medical evidence? They included the James Ossuary with this find, so I want to know if James' bones were broken, they should be broken if he was stoned, as Josephus said.
Why didn't they just show the bones to everyone who said he rose from the dead? It would have been easy enough to do, and people had plenty of motivation to disprove Christianity.
Why does it have to be Jesus of Nazereth? The site is nowhere near Nazareth and if they had the money to buy the fancy ossuary, they would have been able to move the bones to their hometown.
If the apostles faked the resurrection, why would they have Jesus buried with his family? To do so would be beyond foolish.
Why are only some of the ossuaries labeled? According to the theory pushed by Cameron they labeled the bones because of the importance of Jesus. Well, why would they ignore his brothers?
Nobody said if the bones of Jesus were from a crucifixion. If they were wouldn't they have shown pictures of the bones themselves rather than leave that question unanswered?
Why weren't the archeological sites immediately recognized? If they found an ossuary with the name of Jesus son of Joseph and the body was crucified, it shouldn't have taken over twenty years for the news to come out.
And if they have such conclusive evidence, why don't they just come out and say that christianity is a lie? Without the resurrection being physical, it wouldn't have been called a resurrection.

First of all, if making movies that offend some group could end your career as a film-maker, there would be no films. Cameron just has to make movies people want to see. I think more will be assumed about his motives than known. I assume he thought it was interesting and others would find it so. It's a remake of the BBC documentary that went spectacularly un-noticed, as this one should have given the impossiblity of establishing the film's claims as well as the impossibility that proving any of the claims would convince any believer. Believers didn't believe based on proof to begin with.

It won't end his career and it will do just fine. For every self deluded Christian out there who still believes in the ancient mythical belief that Jesus rose from the dead( a concept borrowed from earlier religions anyway) there are plenty of rational people that are just interested in the story, and any links that might help explain how the life of one peaceful man spawned the abomination known as Christianity.

hasnt he already made a get-out disclaimer?

He said something along the lines of, if evidence finds it not to be true, then so be it. This is after stating that the odds were 600-1, or 1,000,000-1, in favour of those bones belonging to thee Jesus, depending on what report you read of course

I agree with Gazoo, I think it's just a matter of making an interesting story really

and it will certainly attract a HUGE number of people, now that it's grabbed major attention, as opposed to years ago when the site was first found.

edit: as opposed to previous documentaries I mean lol

I've read through his case and it isn't that bad. The details aren't all up but what is up is good enough that it won't end his career at all.

I do think that he figured that the case was solid enough that it would cause a stir and there would be great money in it. What the heck, I am having fun watching the Christian reaction.

Money. He saw that with the Da Vinci Code, anyone will go see a movie as long as it's contraversal and the religion being torn to shreds is Christianity. You doubt me, try looking at how people treat it here. You have "twitter" questions (questions asked by those who twitter and chuckle behind their hands for getting a one up on Christians). I find it disgusting that it's ok to tear apart a religion for entertainment. Hollywood, Camron, and several others need to get a life.

He was on top until Passion of Christ and The DaVinci Code. He's power hungry. Power hungry people will stoop to anything. He found out (or thinks) that a blockbuster movie now has to center around Jesus and religious controversy.

Interesting. His career pretty much ended for me when he took a disaster of 2200+ people drowning in a frozen ocean and filmed it as a love story...

In other words, your opinion doesnt matter. It doesnt matter if you dont find it convincing. Others wil. Thats all that matters. You are but one of BILLIONS of people on earth. Get used to it.

Maybe to expose christianity in a scientific light? Or perhaps he felt there was truth in the davinchi code and wanted to make his own version of the story.
