That was probably it - the age difference, and military discipline.

If he is 18+ and you are 17 yes he could get in trouble it depends on the situation. Or if he was in uniform he can't hold your hand. When you are in uniform you are not supposed to hold hands, kiss whatever. It is called a public display off affection and in any form it is not allowed while in uniform. Why don't you just ask him in a letter or a phone call why he said he could get into trouble. Good communication is going to be the most important skill that both of you learn if you both want your relationship to continue. If you cannot talk clearly to each other you will never make it. The military puts a lot of demands on the service members and the people that love them. If you cannot support each other through communication you are going to have a very rough road. So, go ask him and get your answer from him. We are only guessing what the issue may have been.

Public Displays of Affection (PDA) is not allowed by trainees while in uniform in any branch. Do not take it personally that he does not hold your hand. More than likely, he wants to do more than hold your hand. Unless you are wearing a neon sign that says "I am under the age of 18", the age thing does not even come into play. Once he completes basic training, things will be different, just be patient and keep supporting your Marine. Further, if you would have just asked him, I am sure he would have explained it fully to you. I know it is hard for someone who is not familiar with the military to understand all the things their soldier, sailor, marine or airman is going through, but just take the time to ask him and show him you support him and he will be very open with you about what's happening. In the next letter you write to him, ask about it and be open to everything.

I don't think it will matter too much, so long as you're not having sex at Camp LeJeune. I would imagine that him being so young, it's not a problem for the Marine Corps. There could be a policy on public displays of affection. Sorry if that causes you stress. If he can get a pass off the base it may be easier.

I know a lot of marine guys and there girlfriends. When you go into the marine they change the way you think and the way they act. He is also young and when your young and separate, you tend to grow apart and not together. Hang in there if you really love each other you will find each other again.
It will be hard, but stand by him no matter what.

No, he really CAN get into trouble for holding you hand!!! My boyfriend did the same thing. It made me feel like crap but he said he was not allowed to hold hands or to show affection!! When he is in uniform he can not hold your hand EVER! This one time we were on base holding hands while he was in uniform and some officer (military) stopped his car , got out, and yelled at him!!!

I think you might have gained more prespective by just asking him. But that very well could be it. Upholding the law outwardly is extremely important to Marines. Maybe next time just ask him why he'd get in trouble instead of us, after all that IS your man.

The legal age for dating in the services is 18. He can get in big trouble for messing around with an underaged child - which you are.

He can be court-martialed. Don't jeopardize his service record by insisting on intimacy.

Perhaps you should cool it until either he comes home for leave or until you become and adult at 18.

Depending on who sees them inpublic he really COULD get into trouble if he is caught doing something his superiors concider inappropreate in public. He is still in training, so he is expected to retain a certain standard of behavior, especially as a marine. Don't take it personally and try to read between the lines.

No, he's just worried about getting in trouble for a "public display of affection" while in uniform. In reality holding hands will not get him in trouble. Dry humping and making-out would be another matter.
