Barn owl..Your opponent fouls on his break. yuu take a free ball..1pt.you then pot the black(7pts) and split the pack. You then clear the table (147) so your break would be 155 (including the ferr ball and the extra black).

If a player commits a foul stroke with all 15 reds still on the table, and snookers his or her opponent, the opponent may choose to hit any coloured ball as a free ball which is scored as a red. By potting that free ball and a colour, then all of the reds followed by blacks, then all six colours, the player can achieve a break of more than 147. If the free ball is followed by a black, and the player goes on to clear the table, the total score for the break is 155; this is the highest possible break in these circumstances.

During 2005, Jamie Cope made snooker's first registered 155 break in a practice match, there were witnesses to this but dasly no cameras.

What a great question.

To answer the query about how 155 is the actual maximum this takes into account the scenario that a playercomes to the table after their oponent has fouled and left a free ball. Then they pot a colour (which would be counted as a red for points reasons) then they pot the black. This gives the 8 points with all remaining balls left.

I have no idea if anyone has ever got this but would imagine it would be extremely rare as leaving a free ball with all reds on the table would be very unfortunate.
