Your TSH is elevated. TSH stimulates the thyroid to produce more T3 and T4, two thyroid hormones.

Have your physician refer you to a good endocrinologist that can help guide you through treatment. As far as having a dark colored thyroid, I'm not sure I understand the description. Was this the result of an uptake scan where they gave you some sort of iodine tracer? From prior experience, I am aware that dark spots on such a test are called "Cold Spots" and are areas where the thyroid tissue is not actively absorbing iodine. I was told that spots such as those might represent fluid-filled cysts or solid masses called 'nodules'. Some nodules represent other health problems, so it would be to your advantage to follow up ASAP.

An endocrinologist will be able to make sense of the tests you've had and interpret the results for you. Good luck. When you are under treatment, you'll feel a lot better.

Your TSH level is just slightly elevated, Normal is: .5 to 5. No idea what darker color means.
