Does anyone know why my files on my PC would change colors? One day, my files are the standard black color, now, some of them are blue and some of them are black. Nothing seems to have changed the files itself as I've opened them up and they open up fine. I read somewhere that you can change the colors of the folder from yellow to whatever you want.

But why would my files change from black to blue? Some files are MSWord, some are MSExcel, some are PPT. There doesn't seem to be any similiarity between the files.

I'm on a network, using WinXP SP2.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

It took me a long time to figure out why it does that, ironically there is very little mention of it. The reason why file names turn blue is because you haven't used those files in a long time and Windows compresses them to save disk space.

The black to blue color change on my computer was an option that designates a compressed file. I have one hard drive that is still in Fat32 and every file in it is shown in blue instead of black. So I'm thinking it designates any compression format different than the drive with the operating system.
