I have never smoked a day in my life .. unfortunately, my husband smokes a pack a day :(
he says he's going to quit before the baby is born .. but as of right now .. he's still smoking a pack a day.
He has NEVER smoked in the house .. so the only time I smell smoke on him is once in a while for like 5 minutes when he comes back in the house.
Can that smell of smoke on him harm my baby?

I don't want my baby to be harmed in any way because of his dads bad habit ..

Ok first of all..."Second hand smoke" kills.
Yes it can harm you.
Yes it can kill you.
I have a co worker who died last august of lung cancer...he never smoked a day in his life ...his wife was a chimney.

However...I don't think what you have is "second hand smoke" ...

Are you actually standing in a cloud of smoke...or a your just standing next to your smelly husband? lol

My husband smokes to...and he stinks like smoke...but that's different than actual smoke.

I'm sure you and your baby are fine...but tell your hubby (like I tell mine) that you'd like him to live long enough to see your baby graduate from college...so quit those cancer sticks!!

Secondhand smoke and the toxins that linger on hubby's clothing after smoking IS indeed dangerous.

For those who stated they smoke while pregnant, I sure feel sorry for your children...even if they were born healthy.

My mother smoked through 4 pregnancies. All children weighed less than 6lbs. The 3rd child died after an almost full term pregnancy and only weighed 1lb. The 4th child, me, weighed a whopping 3lbs 1oz and was a few weeks early.

I have been fortunate not to have suffered any major illnesses but I've always been sickly as a result. Also, I was born with a heart murmur and my irregular heartbeat was not discovered until I was 17 and about to have surgery for the second time.

He's saying he'll quit as soon as the baby is born but if he hasn't started on the road to quitting smoking, he will NOT suddenly drop smoking just because there's a baby around. Any smoker will tell you that quitting a pack a day habit is not an easy task.

I wish you the best.

I wouldn't worry to much if he smokes outside and then washes his hands and stuff when he's done smoking. I hope that he can quite smoking!! It will be hard but really worth it in the end! Good Luck and congrats on the pregnancy!!

The odor of the smoke won't hurt the baby, and it is good that he isn't smoking in the house. Secondhand smoke is bad for the baby and for you even if you weren't pregnant. You shouldn't be around him at all when he's smoking, even if you are both outside together. I hope he is able to quit because kids who have parents that smoke are at a risk for asthma and respiratory allergies. Plus, it's bad for your husband's health and one of the best things we can do for our kids is to take care of ourselves so we can be around to raise them.

Second hand smoke is dangerous for you and your unborn baby. So him quitting after the baby is born is too late.

your baby will be fine-- at least if dad is going to smoke- at least he is doing it outside and not inside! I smoked through my entire second pregnancy =( and baby turned out just fine- so try not to worry about it- and if dad can't quit- just make sure he continues to smoke outside once baby is born and no smoking in the car!

Um, if he was actually smoking inside the house i think u'd have something to worry about. But as he's not, there should be no problem. But as soon as the babe is born, smoking nearby him/her is a no-no in my book.
Well, that's my opinion anyway. Lol.

yes it can....

all second hand smoke is bad to anyone...

if it causes damage to an adult just imagine what it can do a developing child inside his mother's womb...

good luck and stay away from it

I know this will sound bad, but I smoked during both my pregnancies and both my children turned out fine ... one 6 pound 6.9 ounce girl and 8 pound 2 ounce baby boy. People always make it sound a lot worse than it really is. My best friend was around my husband and I when she was pregnant with both of her kids and her nor her kids were ever affected by it.
