We just bought an oriental-style rug. However, on a Pergo floor, it's much like training for the Ice Capades. So we went to Walmart and purchased some sticky hemp-like mesh to hold it down. It lasted an hour. Then a neighbor gave us some latex-rubber type mesh to cut up and stick under it. It somewhat works, but the rug is still slippery. Does anyone have a DIY remedy to make this rug stay put?

try to tape that rubber stuff your neighbor gave you to the bottom of the rug. that way the rug will not slip off of it, usually a rubbery material will prevent slipping but every material and floor is different...
just experiment and keep in mind you need to create friction between the rug and the floor...

There are rug pads for this exact reason.
They are made of a type of sticky foam, and it looks like it's a type of mesh.

I'm not sure what you bought at Wal-mart, but I wouldn't think that they would carry this anyhow.

You should be able to purchase one at a good furniture store that also sells area rugs. They also help to add some cushion to it so that the rug does not wear down as fast.

I bought mine at the furniture store I shop at, it was about $35. for 5x8 size.

Double Faced Tape. That's what carpenters use to install temporary carpet in convention centers - I've used it a million times and it will hold down carpet (once you put the double face down, you can literally drive a forklift over the carpet and it will NOT move). I'm sure they carry it at Home Depot and Lowe's.

At Home Depot and other stores they have this tape you put down and it will stick good. But, leaves tape residue if you want to remove it. Double sticky on both sides.

I have been there...the best thing to do is go to a CARPET store, and get what they recommend...I have spent tons of $$ myself all on crap that doesn't work...can't remember the name of the stuff they told me to get...but it finally worked...
BE CAREFUL! Rugs like that are really dangerous..

This is easy you need to nail it to the floor.6 Inch round heads are best. You can paint the heads to match the colours of the rug, no one will ever know they are their. Hope this has helped
