If you have 'I love Osama' tattoo-ed on your forehead, you may well find that your Army career is shortlived.

It depends on many things.
1. What the tattoo is.
2. Where it is - as has already been stated you can not have any displayed (i.e. on your forearms or around your neck).
3. How badly the army needs recruits.
When I joined (late 80's), two were enough to prevent you being accepted.

Easy:
1. tattoos on the face are very frowned on if they are installed after joining - you are unlikely to get in if you have them as a civvy unless they extremely small (i.e a 'tear')
2. They should be non rude, judgemental, no swasstikka types or gang symbols
3. They should be easily hidden under normal clothing
4. Females are 'discouraged' from getting them but not stopped
5. All tattoos should be reported so that they can be used as identifying marks in case you get killed - yes people it is a dangerous job!
6. Dont bother with tattoos in the first place as most people regret them at some point - but hey its your choice

Tattoos does not stop you from being a soldier, my hubby is in the army and has four tattoos. one on each arm, one on his back and one on his wrist. You just have to tell them if you have any and where they are. Good luck and you could always ring the recruting office and ask them questions about this as they are more than willing to answer questions.
Good luck

Tattooing has been a favourite, for many years of sailors in the R.N. It would be discrimination if soldiers were not allowed the same freedom. Soldiers do have tattoos.
Incidentally, what is the basic difference between a facial tattoo and camouflage face paint?

NO, I've been in the army and had mates with loads. the only thing that may stop you would be facial tattoos or visible ones on the neck. I suppose racist tattoos might be a problem.

No. Unless your tattoo is particularly offensive (the sort that you get into fights about on regular basis) you should be OK. Facial tattoos probably out as well.

Tattooes will not stop you from getting in the Army. They might frown upon them if you are a female though!

Most of my mates had tatts. As long as there is no infection or other self inflicted injury and it is not offensive by race or creed, no problem.
