In a debate with a friend. I think it's better to eat small healthy meals/snacks throughout the day, that are calorie sensitive. He seems to think it's better to just starve yourself and drink water (i've lost 74 pounds; 75 more to go). What's the best and healthiest thing to do. Thanks.

He is right for the first week or two, then you are right, when the body adjust to no food, it will then shut down and store food and gain it back when you start eating again. eat five to six small full meals a day

Your friend is an idiot. Starving is VERY bad and even when crash dieting (not eating hardly anything over a period of time) you are more likely to gain all the wieght back once you start to eat again, if not more. You are right. Eating smaller, snack-sized meals about 5 times throughout the day is better. Stick to healthy foods and avoid sugars and fat concentrated foods. Stick to what you're doing, it's much better for your health. Also, be sure to drink lots of water (at least he got that part right) and incorporate exercise into your lifestyle. Best of luck!

Yes many small meals is the only choice. (Fasting slows down your metabolism). I also eat more than usual one day a week to replenish my glycogen stores completely , that way my body feels replenished come Monday and I'm ready to hit the gym and track hard. Stay away from high glycemic carbs. The only time you should have any is after an intense weightlifting session or an HIIT cardio workout.

Eat six-ish small, healthy meals spaced evenly throughout the day. You starve yourself and drink just water you'll be throwing your body out of whak, not to mention the "i made it" binge at the end that nullifies any results that may have been there.

Yep, you are right.

And you know you are because you have the results to prove it! Personally, I eat 3 meals, with 2 small snacks in between (fruit between breakfast and lunch, and a 100 - 200 calorie snack after my afternoon workout). It all boils down to calories in the end.

Congratulations, and wishing you continued sucess.

I suggest you start eating more vegetables and chicken meat only(it's working great for me). Avoid meat, please and try some great salads with chicken meat(they are great). Eat an egg in the morning and avoid frying. Fruits can replace sweets and eat less bread. It is so stupid not to eat at all or starve. You will put those kilos in a sec and even more than they were before. Don't starve, eat healthy. And don't expect to get skinny right away, you can eat a chocolate with some friends every three weeks.

Of course your way is healthier but it takes forever. When I was on a diet, my weight didn't come off easily if I did it in a healthy way since I wasn't overweight to begin with.
