You should never get "some type" of anything added to a tattoo. Sounds like a good location though.

Hey guy under me, how's it feel to be an asshole? ha ha

Really it is your decision. I think it isn't a good idea though for several reasons. First of all, I know PLENTY of people that when we were in high school or college got tatoos thinking they would be neat, had meaning, etc.... and now regret ever getting them.

Tatoos bleed over time. Not to mention, if you gain weight, if you ever have to have surgery for any reason, etc. The tatoo could "warp", get scars through it, etc. Plus, just getting older, once you are in your 50's, 60's or older, skin starts loosing elasticity and gets thinner and drier, so your tattoo will start looking fairly bad (plus the bleeding ink as well).

Then there is the aspect of clothing. What if you work for some big company and they have a gala event and you need to wear an evening gown... and you want to wear a backless dress, or something with a low back. Would that tattoo look very professional then amongst being with co-workers? Also really depends on what you want your career to be too. A tattoo in that spot might be concealable, but then again, maybe not.

Then what about children? If ever you regret getting this tattoo down the road, it will be much harder to tell your kids they shouldn't get tattoos when mom is sporting one on her back.

Not sure how old you are, but what I would suggest is holding off until you are in your mid-late 20's. THEN if you still want that tattoo and have weighed the pros and cons, then maybe you should still get it.

Many people do things when in their teens and early 20's they regret later. A tattoo is permanent and is something you can't undo (although you could do laser, it scars, and they have a hard time removing red ink).

Maybe just get some temp tattoos, or design your tattoo and see if you can get it made into a temp tattoo. Then wear it for awhile and see what you think.

I've been wanting a tattoo for a while, but because it's for forever, I told myself to wait a year. If by the end of the year I still wanted it, I would know it wasn't a phase, and that I would be happy with it.

Also, you'll want to consider if there's a chance you would want it in a more discreet area or not. That's something else to think about. Will you care 20 years from now if you're at a beach and you have a rose on your back? A popular place for girls to get a tatto is right above their butts. That's where I'm going to get mine if I decide to. That way I'll be able to hide it 20 or 30 years down the road if I want to.

That's just my two cents. I've just known a few people who got their tattoos because it was popular at the time, or because it was on a whim, and they hated it a few years later, or hated the location of it.

However, I'm glad to see that it has a special meaning to you. Something random would probably be a mistake. Make sure that the celtic design is something that has meaning to you as well. Also make sure you like the design the tattoo artist suggests. Make changes if you're not completely comfortable with it.

Overall, just take time. It will last forever, so there's no rush, right?

Love the idea and the location would be excellent for a large, well done tat.

But in my opinion, skip on the 'some type of tribal or celtic', I don't think it would add to it and usually tribal is very bland. Start with the rose and find a good but different filler/background later. Good luck.

I think it is a fantastic place for a tat, in fact I have one there too.... Do make sure that you are comfortable with the tribal or Celtic theme and won't regret it later.... so many people get those "trendy" tattoo's without really knowing what they stand for or where the symbol originated.
I love all of my tattoos, and I love the story behind them. Roses make lovely body art (I don't have a rose)

Ok...

Tattoos are forever, so make sure this decision is one you can live with. I have several, and I don't regret a single one, but here is some things to know:
1- They hurt. If it's your first, you will feel it. If you are aware of this, it's not so bad.
2- Good tattoos aren't cheap, and cheap tattoos aren't good. Shop around and check into the shops hygiene/reputation. I don't advise a 'drop in' tattoo, or a place that is just cheap unless it comes recommended. (see below)
3- Ask others with tattoos where you can go to get a good one, there is a sort of 'community' to people who are marked- it's like when you see 2 guys with long hair walking toward each other, they will sometimes give a small 'nod' to the other as if to say 'hey' - people with tattoos are similar (at least where I'm from) and can generally guide you to where a decent shop is.

get whatever you want but, tribal??? i look forward to the day when people will stop getting senseless tribal tattoos. is there a reason you want to get "tribal" do you decend from a heritage of people who have a tradition in tribal tattoos? i would skip the tribal and just get a rose with some pretty leaves or something around it. the placement sounds beautiful.

Like a lot of the other people said - tattoos are forever. The location is a good one - especially since you won't have to worry too much about it stretching, like when women get them on their breasts or stomachs and get pregnant or gain a lot of weight.

I would say no, usually, but there is a little bit of meaning behind it. I think that you should wait unti there's a story behind it. But if it is something you really, truly want and you think, after thinking for a long time, that you won't regret it later on, go ahead.

But definitely check up on the place you intend to get it from!!

I have a Haida Raven in between my shoulders blades and towards the top of my back and i love it.

You can cover it or show it depending on the situation.

The only regret I have about it is that I had mine done 3 or 4 days before a flight from Vancouver back home to Sydney and, being that I am not a contortionist, I found it quite difficult to get the A & D ointment on it in the tiny little toilet cubicle on the plane to stop the itching.

sounds cool get it where ever you want and just so everyone knows the so called tramp stamp is a nickname for a popular place to get a tat on the lower back for women typically yes strippers have it doesnt mean shes a whore as well other women have it and some are tramps yes but others are not they could have something they like but boys have choosen to label it tramp stamp in order to think they know whos easy or not as well guys also like it because it gives them something to look at but on the orginal topic put it wherever you want it sounds nice just get the other part sorted to what you want because something to finish off the ends doesnt sound very promising on something you will continue to like down the road
