If I made a prophecy that bananas would grow out of my nostrils, could someone later write that 500 people saw the bananas? I think so. Would that prove that the bananas were there? Sadly, no.

babydoll: You are assuming that you have the testimony if 500 people. You don't. You have ONE source telling you that 500 people saw it. You have the testimony of ONE.

All it takes is a piece of paper and a pen.

Psychics who claim to be able to predict the future typically do it this way. It's pretty easy to make a lot of vague claims and then later pick out the ones that you can argue predicted some event or other, and claim to have a special power. That's pretty much the extent of Biblical "prophesy".

It's only slightly more difficult to make a lot of fairly specific claims and then later pick out the ones that seem like predictions of some event, and claim to have a special power.

Neither of those requires any special power at all, just a lot of dishonesty.

If you want to see an honest test of prophetic power, ask for a small set of specific predictions _of events that have not yet occurred_, agree in advance what will constitute "hits" and how many of the predictions must come true, and then look for those "hits".

You'll notice that psychics don't work that way. That's because they can't - there is no supernatural power to predict the future.

It isn't difficult at all. It is simply the author writing a book. It's like foreshadowing. You wouldn't call an author that uses foreshadowing a prophet.

Babydoll, No. It is not like that at all. It is like someone saying that they heard from someone else that 500 people saw chippy commit murder.

They would be laught out of the courtroom.

If you were charged with murder and 500 people testified that they saw you do it you would be convicted.
