Because no one knows if they will die a painful death, and everyone hopes they just go in their sleep.

There are two issues I think about re: death. That it might
[1] occur before I'm old enough, ready enough, and accomplished enough (ie, a control issue)
[2] be an uncomfortable experience
To counter these issues, I:
[a] spend time learning how to stay happy and healthy for the longest time possible
[b] try to do the things I want to do
[c] learn about how to control discomfort
[d] instruct others who might make decisions on my behalf about my wishes.
According to my belief, once I'm dead, my life -- all feeling, sensing, thinking, or awareness of any kind -- cease to exist. And while the thought of 'nothingness' is a little unnerving, the logic of it helped eliminate fears and doubts I used to have about what happens after death.

There is no reason to be afraid of dying. Most people are given morphine or diamorphine when near to death, so they just go to sleep and know nothing more. The fear of pain is another thing. Some people fear the unknown, but if they think of how they feel when they go to sleep, there is no difference when dying, except they don't wake up. I'm not going to give you stories about heaven and hell, because I don't believe in them. Your life is your heaven or your hell depending on how you live it.

i think most people are not so much afraid of death as they are of dying. Most people are more afraid of dying in pain or not accomplishing everything they wanted to do in life, leaving behind loved ones and more importantly your children. it is also the fear of the unknown. What will i feel and how will it effect me?

Well, because it's painful sometimes and also, one doesn't know if all the mumbo jumbo about life after death are true. All these idiots who say "oh, you'll be in a better place" JUST may not REALLY know what the (blank) they're talking about, so fearing the unknown is natural...unless of course you're so stupid that your senses are dull or perhaps you're nuts.

Everyone is scared of death, whether it be a rapist, a pickpocket, an author and even a poet who looks at life with a totally different view from the general mass. People could think of suicide but commiting it takes up great courage. The only people who do not fear death are the religious mass, but, even then, they are not spared from the pain of departure from their loved ones!in the same way, people are not scared of dieting but da results and the outcome. Females worry about their sagging skin! The fear is in evryones hearts! You have to make your hearts stronger...cuz its all in da heart!

well I'm afraid of it because who knows what happens afterwards, could be nothing, could be your stuck as a ghost on earth for eternity, you go to hell/heaven whatever or you could just be buried in blackness in your coufin. Who knows. I'd say I am fearful because it's something we will never have any information on until it's our own person time to experience it.

I am not afraid of dying. I simply get saddened when I think of the world going on without me being a part of it, and me missing everything. That makes me a little sad, but never scared.
