what are the various formats of storing photos and which one should be preferred. .pdf, .gif , .jpeg etc are some of them and which one should be preferred to reduce storage space on disc ?

I will suggest jpg format. But also look at the png format it have much better compression and advanced feature than jpg

the file format matters, if you can convert it, try, but it may change the quality. you can also try compressing the disc by right clicking and going to properties, i THINK this should work.

take scissors,
cut a little here,
cut a little there,
the file becomes smaller.
Then stretch the disk.
See?
