Okay so I already had anothe post but it didnt really explain itself before, I am going to have my four wisdom teeth cut out tomorrow and they are going to have to put me under because they are laying sideways below the gum, so anyway they are saying they are going to give me Lortab 7.5 but I have a high tolerance for pain meds and a low tolerance for pain, I know it sounds weird but I was hoping to get Percocet (oxycodone & tylenol) what do you think the chances are that they will give me that? Also they are giving me penecillin, phenergan, a steriod and pain meds so I think it's going to hurt like he** does it? Which pain med do you think would work the best?

Thanks in advance!

First of all, relax. You will get through this. I had this done too. It hurts, yes, but you will get through this. Explain to your surgeon that you have a high tolerance for painkillers.

You're probably going to swell up. The best way to combat this (and take some of the pain away without meds) is to get four of the small bags of frozen corn (the ones that are about 6" by 6". Corn stays frozen longer and is still malleable, carrots aren't) and a NEW pair of pantyhose you don't want to use again. Put one bag in each leg of the hose just near the crotch portion of the hose and tie it off so it's secure, but you can open it again later, and position it so it's as close as you can get to your swollen cheeks and then tie off the legs on top of your head in a big easty to take off bow. Switch off the bags when they thaw too much to be helpful.

The idea is that the crotch part is on your chin and will keep the frozen corn in place where you need it (on your sore cheeks) even if you move your head or have to get up to pee or whatever.

I looked absolutely freakish, but I was back to eating normally in six days, and could eat some solids after two. If you want any other tips, or a better explanation, email me.

OMG!!! What a flash back! I had that exact same procedure done 5 years ago. OUCH it really hurt too, but if I didn't have it done the pain eventually would of been a he** of a lot worse, especially because my jaw bone had to be chiseled into to get the teeth out! I don't know where you live but I'm from Australia and when the anaesthetic wore off I got stuck into the old Panadine Fortes. My face was the size of Texas and the pain lasted for about 2 weeks. After all the pain it is a worth while procedure to have had done. Good luck mate.

Darvocet did wonders for me. It's an older, but very effective pain killer. Pill form of Demarol. It's exceptionally good for Caucasians that have trouble metabolizing codeine due to poor function of a specific enzyme. Percocet and lortab never did much for me.

I had all four cut out at once and encountered no trouble eating. Pudding that day, I was eating bites of hamburger the very next day. Listen to your mouth. If you're still in ALOT of pain the next day, stick to pudding. If you feel like a hamburger, cut it up into bite sized pieces, this makes eating alot easier.

The only major trouble I had was the general anesthesia made me freak out. I cried for no reason for some 6 hours after the procedure. Everyone reacts differently. I was put under general when I had surgery on my back and woke up in quite an aggressive mood, arguing and fighting with the nurse. They had to sedate me to get me to calm down.

Just explain that to them - your low pain tolerance and they will give you the best drugs within reason for the pain. It will hurt - but alot of it is because its in your mouth and we tend to have alot of movement in that area. Im guessing theyll give you Darvocet or Vicodin to take home.

First of all don't do all four together.
Do each side of you face separately.
Not only it'll hurt like hell but also you wouldn't be able to eat.
So tell your dentist to cut out the wisdom teeth on one side first and then wait until it heels and then go for the other side.
Believe me I have done it and it hurts like hell.
