Dont worry and dont make an issue of it. If he is eating healthily and drinking plenty he will go when he has to. My son used to hate going to toilet anywhere other than home, holidays were no much fun the longest he held it for was five days on a camping trip when he awoke us in the night clambering over us all to get out to the toilet whilst pooing on all our sleeping bags! Smelt lovely next day in the sun. He is now a perfectly normal crap happy 16 year old. Make sure there are no underlying problems such as constipation and pain and if there arent leave him to his routine because if you make a fuss about it it will become a bigger issue and something he can use when he wants which kids do, one of my sons would always have dreadful stomach pains when he did not want to eat his dinner i took him to doctors and hospital and the more attention i gave the worse he was. Dont worry he will poo when he needs to.

I had this problem with my daughter about a year ago she was at at the stage where when she eventually did poo it made her cry and there was often a bit of blood. I took her to the Gp who prescribed Lactose solution, we were on this for about 6 months daily then we took her off it, but the problem persisted, so I was refered to the Childrens Hospital where they gave her an examination. She was then prescribed a powder called Moviacal Paediatric which I was to give her once a day in a beaker of water or squash. She is still on it but now only needs it 2 or 3 times a week to keep her regular.

My cousin has this, mind you she is 3, but she has always had it. What happens is they hold it in, then when they do go they are constipated and it hurts. So they hold it in because it hurts when they go, which only makes it worse.
They give her stool softeners every day, basically to the point that she can't hold it in. Hopefully if they can keep on top of it she will heal, it will stop hurting and she will forget. I wouldn't count on that happening on it's own though. Not at this point, he's 7 already. Now admittedly her case is worse, she has bleeding from it. Stool softeners not laxatives are supposed to be perfectly safe. Laxatives can cause dependence and dehydration. You may want to consider talking to your doctor about it again, or your son.

He's a little old for a reward system, but you could give it a shot anyways. Just like toddlers offer a reward for using the potty for number 2... you can keep a canister of little Dollar toys lying around so that he can pick the toy out himself.
Otherwise your best defense is communication. Ask him why he's doing it... perhaps like others said there is pain associated with going Number 2. Maybe he doesn't like the amount of time it takes to go Poo and thinks he will miss out on something. Once you figure out the cause it will be easier to find the remedy!

I have a 3 year old and she does the same. I honestly believe that she was traumatized by her first hard bowel movement at around 1 yr old. It was so hard and big that it hurt her, she even bled a little. i had called the doctor and he said that was probably because of too much vitamin D (baby formula with vitamin D for 1 year old and older). Her system coldn't digest all. Since then i notice that she is scared to do #2. We talk to her and she insist that it hurts but we can't force her....as with the law of nature, regardless of her choice, she will have to let it out. We help her out with it by giving her prunes and raisins to help soften it for her, but not too much. We hold back the apple and banana that can constipate her and make it hard. See if you can pin point the time that he may have started and talk to him, try children stool softners and increase his intake of prunes and raisins. Try variations of prunes and raisins in desserts or meals he may like.
The only other alternative is having the doctor prescribe meds for this situtation, because he can be doing great harm to his insides. Definitely talk to his pediatrician or your general practitioner. They will give you the best advice that is in his best health. Hope this helps!

I had this probldm with my little boy....in the end i found out that a little boy from pre-school had told him stories about what happens when you poo, which frightened my son so much he used to hold it in as long as possible, then when he went very occasionally because he couldnt hold it in any longer, it obviuosly hurt and this put him off even more, maybe this is what the problem is with your son. trying asking him if he has heard any rumours, because i soon as i told my little boy that the stories were nonsense....he was going everywhere and anywhere! lol
hope this helps...please let me know xx

a nap would possibly no longer be needed, he could be to an age the place he no longer desires a daily nap to function. while i became a new child my mom might provide us young little ones a snack as quickly as we've been given abode from college, then we in the present day did all of our homework and had something of the day to play. We constantly had a lot of potential. Making homework a precedence ensures that it does get accomplished daily and in the experience that your son gets drained, he can take a nap.
