One of my friends says she took 8 sleeping pills yesterday. She said first she took four and chased them with a glass of wine then took the other four within less than an hour and she said she felt dizzy and a little disoriented but she never fell asleep or felt anything other than the dizziness. I did tell someone so she can get help, but I was just wondering can she still die even though its been over 24 hours? I am worried about her. Can she still suffer physically even though it didn't happen right away?

Unlikely, if she's awake, alert and oriented now.
Make sure she doesn't do it again!

**Oh, Sominex is 'diphenhydamine' (Benadryl)....this will cause drowziness, dizziness when overdosed. Please make sure she doesn't drive and that she did not take any antidepressant medications along with that.
*Keep in mind that alcohol in any form is a lethal combination with any sleeping pills!!

Sleeping pills can be used only if prescribed by the doctor, since he shall check ur age, health conditions and requirement of the power of the sleeping pills... I too got from the doctor's advice rather than across the counter at the medical shop.. He asked me not to continue after 10-20 days.. Since i might get addicted to it.. So Jus go to ur doctor.... All will be fine

To the best of my knowledge, Sominex is available over the counter and is not a prescription drug. You did the right thing by telling someone about what she did. This person needs help right NOW. Anyone who is taking that many pills is crying out for help. Next time she may not be so lucky. She should go to the ER and they will probably pump her stomach out. Sominex is a drug, and everyone responds differently.

Tell your friend's parents that she is crying out for help. If she is trying to kill herself with sleeping pills she needs way more than that to do any real damage. Like I said, if she is your friend, get her help.

No she won't die as somoinex is just an over the counter antihistamine tablet that is marketed also for sleep as the side effect is drowsiness.

I think she is out of the woods now. I'd be very concerned though if she starts doing this daily! That could be deadly! If this happens again please get her help. Good Luck to you and your friend!
