I am 26, 5'4, and weigh 115 pounds. I am trying to lose about 8-10 for swimsuit season ( I have a very small frame so this will not be too little and yes I can stand to lose the weight) I read that in order to lose weight, you need to eat your weight in pounds times 10 in calories, so for me, 1150 calories a day to lose weight and only 1000 once I get to my goal. Is that right? In addition, I run on the treadmill 40 minutes a night, do 20 on the elliptical, and do toning exercises 30 minutes 3X a week. However, on 1150 calories I'm starving! Do I have things mixed up?

most of the time it depends on your metabolism, and since you are real small already, you probably have a good metabolism. It does get tougher every year after you turn 25 (Im 26 as well, and its not getting easier). I would not focus on the amount of calories if you are constantly working out, but the way you take in the calories and what you eat. For example, I would spread out your calories with a small snack in between meals, and smaller meals, as opposed to not eating until dinner. This keeps your metabolism constantly running and burning fat. Also, 1150 calories of salad and chicken for example, is much better than 1150 calories of pizza and burgers.

Yeah your mixed up alright....

Loosing weight when you are already small isn't any harder..it just doesn't show as much.

Lets say I weigh 200 pounds and loose 40...you would notice that, however if I weighed 100 pounds and lost 8 pounds it wouldn't be as noticeable because I was already skinny.

Don't make yourself sick with this diet thing though, not eating right will destroy your health. Try eating better foods instead of foods that have the right amount of calories.. You will feel better and still loose some weight just by cutting out soda and any other sugary drinks. Ask yourself who your are dieting for too..yourself or to impress your guy or girl because if it is to impress a guy or girl then it is for the wrong reasons.

I think so. You are about the same size as me...so you are probably eating around 1500 to 1800 calories a day. When you start eating 1150 a day, the difference will be 1800 - 1150 = 650 calories a day. 3500 / 650 = 5.38 days to lose 1 pound for you. For a person who eats 3000 calories a day (a fatter person), 3000-1150=1850 calories a day, 3500 / 1850 = 1.89 days to lose 1 pound.

If you are working out that much you will be "gaining" muscle which is more dense than fat. That is a good thing, since muscle burns your calories for you. IMHO you should up your calorie intake to at least 1400/day and spread it out over 5 or 6 small meals of lean protein, complex carb and good fat. Your metabolism will rev up and you will see results quicker. It may not be exactly 10 lbs on the scale but you will definitely "see" a significant loss of weight in the mirror. Good luck!

I am not overweight but could stand to lose about 10 pounds. (belly) yes, it is harder for smaller people to lose because there is not much there to lose. You will not see results for quite a while. You can eat more calories than 1150 if you are excersizing every day. Give it about a month before you see results, but you definitely will...

I am 6 1 and over 300. When I started losing weight last year, it seemed like the pounds was just melting off. Then I noticed that the weight was not coming off as fast as when I was heavier.

someone told me it was because of how the fat was burning off and I was gaining muscle.

I wish I would have kept up my exercise and eating right. now I am back to it.
