Yshua (Joshua i.e. Jesus) was one of the most common names of the time as was Mary.I think it was just some poor ol' guy and his family crip......What say you?

Jesus and his relatives did not have a family tomb. They were a Galilee family with no ties in Jerusalem. The Talpiot tomb belonged to a middle-class family from the 1st century CE. He's looking to top The Davinci Code and The Passion of Christ.

Atheists didn't say Jesus didn't exist, what they say is that God doesn't exist, and there's a big difference. For atheists Jesus was just a man, wise, but nevertheless a man, not a God or demi-God as portrayed by Christianity.

One interesting FACT noticed by me and many other people is the way that Christian leaders (including some Christian scholars) want to prevent the airing of the documentary, just like they tried to prevent the translation of ancient manuscripts used by primitive Christians before the creation of the Roman Catholic Church.

Why so much fear about the discoveries? After all, they did not oppose the translation of the book of Isaiah found in 1948, but they sure try to prevent the translation of everything that contradicts the already contraditory Bible.

Most atheists that I know have been totally open to the idea that Jesus existed but was just a normal human being. I have no idea how credible the evidence on this is as I haven't seen the show or read up on it. Seems like Christians are really up in arms and rushing to judge before they have even seen all the evidence. I am sure to those whose lives are very invested in a belief system just based on faith in bizarre and unprovable claims are not going to be swayed by this. They will just keep believing what they want to. I would say the vast majority of people bringing this up on Yahoo are Christians who feel threatened by it. Most of the atheists sentiments have been neutral nonjudgmental or skepticism.

Atheist may or may not say that Jesus existed, that he was the son of god is another matter. Whether or not Jesus existed, there is no proof of any god or any of the miracles that occurred in the Bible, some places and some human events yes, but others no.

I'm very skeptical about the up coming show, it has way too many tag marks of an unproven, but sensational theory that is built on a house of cards.

There are going to be naysayers on both sides of this "finding".

It wouldn't matter if Cameron found a cript with the title "Here lies Jesus Christ of Nazereth, we thought he was the Son of God but he was crusified. Signed Matthew Mark Luke John Thomas etc......"
Even with that kind of evidence, most believers would find a way for it to be a deception. "The devil probably planted it there, just like those pesky dinosaur bones"

Truth is this discovery doesn't mean anything, except money for James Cameron. I personally believe that it probably does have something to do with the Historic Jesus, but will never know for sure. Neither will those who believe it is just a big coincidence. We choose what we want to believe in.

Most Atheists said the Jesus man-god didn't exist, wheres the evidence to the contrary?

No. Atheists claim that God doesn't exist. They never said that Jesus didn't exist (as a historical personage). They just don't think that he's the Son of God.

And in my experience atheists will jump all over anything that makes conservative Christians squirm and shout.

I say enough with the bones questions already.

I also say, fundies have been saying for the last 1000 years that Jesus arose from the dead, intact.. and came from a borrowed tomb. Atheists and non-believers are saying we want to wait until we've seen the documentary before commenting.

The odds of one family having all the same names as those in the bible are 600 to 1. We'll see what they say.

Jesus ,Mary ,Joshua were very common names in those days.It just make me the more faithful when I hear this rabble. No one can shake my faith.I think James Cameron and his helpers in this are going to find out that they all looked like fools.Cant wait to see if they actually come up with Jesus' DNA .LOL

I've been working a lot but I haven't see any excitement by the atheists over this. Generally the news gets a cleric to speak on the issue.
