My mother continues to smoke because she is addicted. She does not want to, but she cannot stop despite her many attempts.

I started when I was 15 or 16. I thought it looked cool and made me look more mature. I have the added excuse that it was 50 years ago that I did this. That is before we knew how dangerous smoking really was. They had ads on TV, yes they had TV back then, black and white only. I kept thinking it was cool, at least that was the excuse I used after I was hooked, and that didn't take long. Even after I was drafted into the Army I couldn't stop. I wasn't allowed to smoke inside of the buildings so I would go outside, rain and snow didn't make and difference.

The only way I was able to quit was being in the hospital and had a couple of things go wrong. I was there for 10 days before I could even get out of bed. Ten days without smoking, boy did I feel good about that, yet I would have given about anything for a smoke, instead I got the nicotine patch. That was 14 years ago and have been smoke free ever since.

People usually start smoking when they're younger because of peer pressure. Then they become addicted to it and can't stop.
I personally don't like the smell of smoke or anything about it so I can't understand why people even start to smoke.

I started when I was 15. I thought it would make me seem older and I wanted to grow up so bad. Stupid hugh?!!
After awhile, it became habbit and then it was just plain addictive.
I hate it!!! I feel like it rules a big part of my life.
I set a date to quit will have the help of my doctor. After smoking for 15 years, I know it won't be easy, but i AM going to do it.
Mothers Day will be the day I quit as a gift to my children as well as the grandchildren I don't even have yet. I would like to be around for years and years and be a good grandma.
Wish me luck!

Actually i'm a smoker i smoke coz i've lots of tensions... in my life and to solve that i need someone's support.. but if u don't find anyone we've to frustrate it out in any one way.... so it gives some relaxation for me atleast. This is the reason why people smoke.

Because we are idiots with little regard for our bodies and they are extremely addictive. I have been quit for over 7 months now and I still have cravings almost every single day.
