Yes...you can use anytype of food coloring - I have included a simple Fondant recipe:
1 cup water
3 cups sugar
1/3 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla or other flavoring (use clear if you want white fondant)
food coloring (optional)

candy thermometer

Bring the water to a boil in a medium to large saucepan. Add the sugar and stir continually until it dissolves in the water. Continue to cook until it comes to a boil again. Add the cream of tartar and stir it in (it may boil up to the top of the pan); then allow it to continue to cook (without stirring any more) until the candy thermometer reads 234 degrees.

Spray a marble slab or a baking pan with cold water and pour the fondant onto the cool surface. Allow it to cool for several minutes until it holds a mark when you press the corner.

Use a firm spatula or candy scraper to work the fondant toward the center, mixing it until it turns white. Knead it until it is smooth. You can add food coloring, flavoring (such as extracts or liqueurs) or even bits of fruit or nuts.

Once you have added your color and flavoring, you are ready to make your fondant-filled chocolates.

yes, you can add any coloring you want. You need to use coloring that comes in paste not in powder. Start putting little by little while making the fondant in order to get a smooth even product. Be careful paste coloring are pretty concentrated so you need to use only a little bit.
If you do not have paste coloring you can make your own by putting some powder coloring on a small container and adding some alcohol drops to make a paste. (regular alcohol, the one that u use for healing wounds is ok, or any you have).
I do not recomend to use water instead of alcohol as it may make the fondant get wet and ruin it. Alcohol evaporates at drying faster than water so it is safer. I have always used it like that.
good luck

Yes, not a problem, just be sure you don't make it too thin by adding the liquid color - reduce the liquid in the recipe by the amount of coloring you use or better yet at the coloring to the liquid when you measure and you will be sure to have the right amount of liquid. Good luck!

Yes. If you want a bright red, though, you may need a special colouring from a baker's supply store, not just regular grocery store food colouring. Whever I've tried to tint it red, I get shades of pink. Most other colours are fine, though.
