You are correct that Jesus stated that the gospel would be preached to all the world, and then the end would come (Matthew 24:14). However, His return is not so much predicated on the world hearing the gospel, although this is certainly important; it is predicated on the actions of the Jews.

You have to remember that Jesus was speaking to a Jewish audience when He gave His "Olivet Discourse" (see Matthew 24 & 25, Mark 13 and Luke 21). Because He was speaking to a Jewish audience, He (correctly) presupposed they were already aquainted with certain aspects of end-times prophecy. In this case, OT prophecy is quite clear: the Messiah will not return until the Jewish people have confessed their sin of unbelief in the Messiah before God AND accepted Jesus as their Messiah. These actions cause the Jews who live through the Tribulation to enter into God's New Covenant.

The requirement they confess their sin before God may be found at Leviticus 26:40-42.

Until they confess their sins and enter into the New Covenant, they will be subject to Tribulation, as given in such places as Ezekiel 20:33-44 and Hosea 5:15.

The motivating factor of their confession is the realization that Jesus is the Messiah, Whom they sinfully rejected. This may be found at Zechariah 12:10.

Once the Jewish people (as a whole, not just as individuals) make this confession before God, Jesus will return to save the Jews and judge the nations, as promised by God at Isaiah 63. Although there will probably not be very many babies born during the Tribulation, Scripture is clear that ALL newborn Jews will automatically be saved.

Newborn gentiles will make this decision when they grow old enough. If they fail to submit to God and His Messiah before the age of 100, they will die (Isaiah 65:20).

He will suspend births for a few years just until everyone is told. Didn't you read that in the Holy Bible, Mark I think it was I'm not sure the verse. That's another one of the signs of the coming. When births stop for awhile You know the coming is near.

That is why we have the Pope, missionaries, priests, etc. It is in fact the "duty" of lay Catholic people to spread the faith. That is why they are called Catholic, meaning spread the faith or something like that.

However it is not required to spread the faith.
