Outlook is *closed*, yet it still retrieves mail and leaves the envelope notice in the task bar. I see the envelope, open the progam and there's mail in the InBox. Again, the program is CLOSED, yet it retrieves the mail. Very strange.... Does anyone have any idea about this? thanks.

Go to options and uncheck the box 'download mail automatically' or 'when not connected' or something like that. Forgive me as I don't use outlook so don't know where to look!! : (

Yeah, when Outlook is closed the system can deliver the e-mail, coz the exchange server is responsible for receiving and sending e-mail and Outlook is a kind of manager on e-mail therefor don't worry and close your Outlook and open it whenever you are in.

Only Outlook Express can do this. Microsoft Office Outlook does not give mail notifications when closed.

If there is the windows messenger icon available in your system tray, then outlook receives mails even though your outlook application window is closed.
