three guys rent a hotel room together each pitching in 10 bucks. The owner realizing he overcharged them, that the room was really only 25, takes 5 dollars out of the 30 they gave him. He put two dollars in his pocket and gave each guy one dollar each back. so that means each guy really only gave 9 dollars a piece which equals 27 dollars and the owner kept two..which brings the total to 29 dollars. What happened to the last dollar?? Please help if you can..im going nuts over this one!!

Well, the dollar didn't really disappear. In fact, there's no logic to this puzzle at all. The second to last sentence confuses the mind such that you can't think of the answer. For those of you who are confused, the answer is: The room still costs $25, and the bellboy got $2, and they each got one back, totalling $3. There's the $30. So, really, the hotel clerk should be arrested for not giving back change in the first place.

The problem with this question is that it doesn't actually make sense in terms of arithmetic; the operations are being done the wrong way, even though it LOOKS right.

Think about it this way. Each guy paid $10 and got $1 back, so a total of $27 went into the hands of the hotel guy: $25 for the room and $2 into his pocket. The $2 that the hotel guy kept is included in the $27 that the three guys actually paid, so you cannot add it to the $27 to get this mythical and meaningless $29 figure.

I answered this exact same joke about 5 min ago, read the questions next time. If you want to see the process look there. But to make it short THEY STILL PAID $27 FOR THE $25 ROOM, there's where your extra dollar went.

Note: the 25/3 = 8.3333333 does not work in this problem. Because the men already payed $10 at the very start of this riddle.

lol this is like so old already.

25 / 3 = 8.33

8.33 + 1 = 9.33

so each paid $9.33, maybe the question shud be where the 1cent go to
