Has this happened to anyone else? He does it sometimes more than once a day, and sometimes not for few days. Any idea's why he might be doing this?

My daughter did it, and she grew out of it. We did find that there was a correlation between her gagging binges and her teething. I think it felt good to stuff her little fist in there, against the gums. I think they like playing with the reflex, too.

I don't really know why children do this. My oldest used to do that when he would get upset with me. For instance, when I would put him in his crib for a nap, bed time, or even scold him for getting into things he shouldn't have been into. My second oldest is 3 and he still does it, although not as bad, he does it until he gags himself but not to the point that he vomits. I thought it was abnormal, but my doc says it is a behavior that a lot of kids get, and definitely not uncommon. As far as affecting they're health as long as they are eating and drinking they are fine. I am not exactly sure as to how to break them of this, i guess it is something they grow out of. good luck.

My toddler does that also, but i don't make a big deal of it. I figure that's what he's doing--trying to see what kind of response he gets, if any at all. Alot of it is just him experimenting with his hands and body, sometimes he doesn't meant to gag himself. As long as he's not losing his meals over it, I wouldn't worry too much...... just that typical weird toddler behavior coming out. He'll probably do some even stranger things in the upcoming months.....get ready!

He probably just does it because he thinks it is funny. I have heard of many other kids doing this, but not mine personally.

Try not to react, reacting to it will likely make it worse because then he will do it just to bug you.

However, if you are concerned, listen to that voice inside you and get help. And keep going to doctors if the first one says it is normal. That little voice really does know best most of the time.

My daughter does the sme...she gags but doesnt vomit..but shell gag hard..im not sure why i figured it a normal thing babies do maybe they;re exploring how far they can fit their hands in? I've heard other babies do that too!

She didnt do it for reaction coz i wouldn react much besides distract her...but now my husband looks at her and firmly says NO and she wont continue pushing it down..ntil he looks away but ive noticed its better since when he started telling her a firm NO. (she stares him back but doesn't pursue it lol)

They chew on their fingers than things, and gag themselves into throwing up. As long as he's not doing it over and over all day long I wouldnt pay attention to it much. Ive known a couple kids who did this, it was just a phase.

My son did that, he did it because he got a reaction out of me. Once I stopped reacting, ignored it he stopped

he may be just doing it accidentally OR he may be doing it for attention.
Try not to make a big deal of it when he does it, because if he gets a reaction, he'll keep it up.
