If its not hurting anyone, why force him to stop. the worst that will happen is a child in school will make fun of him and he will stop bringing it to school.

My son is seven. He hadn't really carried a stuffed animal around for awhile, but since Webkins (small stuffed animals that come with a computer code for games) came out he's started getting into them. These are considered cool for boys too because you can get on-line and play with other friends that are also logged on. I've heard of boys ages 10-12 still "collecting" Webkins...I even like to play some of the games.

My son carried his "Sadapuppy" everywhere til he was in second grade. Then he still took it with him but would leave it in the car. And slept with it til he was about 10. I'm not sure if you remember them, but years ago they had a thing called Critter Sitters, and they have the big sad eyes. Well the dog my son had was one of those. Only he couldn't say " sad eyed puppy" so it became " Sadapuppy". My daughters are 5 and 6 and still occassionally carry these bright, I mean almost neon colored teddy bears their daddy gave them. One is turquoise and the other is yellow..lol..lol . He'll put them down when he's ready and feels safe.

I have an 8-year-old son and he sleeps with a stuffed puppy that he made at Build A Bear. I really don't think it's a big deal.

My son is 6 and doesn't take a stuffed animal everywhere, but occasionally he'll want to take one with us when we go to my parents house or if he's going to his dad's. He usually sleeps with one. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Its a security thing. And if he's your step-son then that means he probably has more than one "home" and sometimes kids need something constant to take with them back and forth from mommy's to daddy's and so forth.

My brother was 8. It wasn't a stuffed animal, it was a blanket that he was convinced was his only friend. He called it "Booban" (for Blue Blanket) and he actually could sit and talk too it. My parents tried to "teach" it out of him, but in the end, he just decided that he didn't need it one day anymore. Later (when we were teenagers) he told me that it was to keep him from missing mom and dad while he was at school.

I took my sons ( we called Elefunk) and told him when he was in 2nd grade that it was time to put it up, under his pillow and only bring him out at sleep time, or if home sick. and that worked very well and in a few months after that, (elefunk) went in a box in the closet. then every so aften he would ask about him, we pulled him out he looked at it smelled it hugged it and after 3-6 times of that,
Elefunk was a thing of the past....It was weird how a 50 cent yard sale item was so needed by a little boy
