Math Problem I guess?

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

After doing this out on paper, The men DID pay $9 for the room each. After paying $10 for the room they each got $1 back, which makes $9 each. And the bellboy kept $2. And 9 x 3 = 27 so basically they just paid $2 extra for the room and tipped the bellboy $2.

To see this better, assume the bellboy didn't keep the $2 and assume they didn't pay an extra $2 for the room. But that still equals 4 extra dollars, so divide it among the 3 men gives you one extra dollar with one remaining. So the extra dollar was accidentally paid for in the cost of the room which they still paid $2 extra for.

Note to the person above me. They did all pay $9 not $8.33333 because they had already payed $10 when they entered their room and only got $1 back, they didn't "repay" when the person realized it was only a $25 room.

You assumption that the men paid 9 dollara apiece for the room is the error.

They actually paid $25 total for the room, or 8.3333333333 apiece.

Then they got a dollar back, the bell hop got two and there is your $30. . .
