It is not always safer. You can do some pretty unsafe things yourself with your food. anything that happens in a resteraunt can be done at home. What is meant by that is that normally you cook and have better quality meat at home and as long as you cook it right, it is safer and healthier for you.

Foods that are available to the fast food restaurants are usually highly processed because of the prolonged shelf life that comes with the business.

Freshly ground beef and fresh chicken tastes much better that all the "shelf-life" meats. And typically, fast food places are more concerned about getting the food out quick than its quality.

Why is McDonald's suddenly in the nutrition race?
Because consumers are more careful about food choices. Again, shelf life is a factor. How do they keep those little apples from going brown? Preservatives. Lots of 'em. Same with the lettuce. Keeping the cost of unusable foods down is big business for fast food places. In order to keep delivery times short they must have the food ready made. If they don't sell, they toss it. When I worked at McDonald's, we threw away all kinds of perfectly edible food, but we had to. That is how the business operates.

Cooking at home gives the opportunity to start with fresher ingredients that are not ladened with preservatives. You have control over how it is cooked as well as the QUALITY of ingredients.

A slice of plastic cheese food is NOT the same as a slice of REAL cheddar cheese. Processed onions do not taste the same as freshly sliced Vidalia sweet onion. And those "won't mold for the next 3 weeks" buns are not the same as a nice French rolls that were baked that morning.

Fresh is best. It tastes better. And burger flippers could care less if your fast food is tasty or not. And usually those who buy fast food with regularity are just looking to fill their stomachs with "gut wadding".

Besides cooking at home is a wonderful experience because it is an expression of love and devotion.

It is healthier because you know what is in that hamburger and you know what the fat content is of the meat you used and the cheese you used etc. You control how much salt or other things are in/on that burger. You also control the size of the burger.

hamburgers at home consist of the meat and fat. what ever is left over from the cow is scrambeled together and sold as "meat product" to fast food chains.

Um, because YOU made it. You know the meat is fresh, you know what's in it and the conditions are sanitary and no mouse/rat feces are in it. It wasn't dropped on the floor, it was cooked correctly. I mean, come on. Think.
