Recently we had a funeral for someone and the army sent a crew to do the funeral, he didn't retire from the army or the guard. He was honorably discharged after three years of service. I just wonder where it is written, and what are the requirements. Thanks

Go to www.va.gov for complete info. You do not have to retire to be honored with a military funeral. It is one of the many benefits of being a veteran. The only requirement is that the person was honorable discharged from the military following their term of service. The VA also pays money to the surviving family to offset the cost of a head stone.

Check with VA the can tell you if you are entitled to a military funeral, I think that if you serverd and was honorably discarged you are entitled to one, a flage drapped casket and a 21 gun salute and a headstone. And it also depends on what rank you were. I know that officers are entitled to more. like a horses and things like that.
