There is a big difference. One is a commonly accepted theory to explain an observed phenomena; the other is an irrational concept based upon primitive beliefs and religious dogma. Take, for example, the theory of gravity: it is a theory, and not just a hypothesis, because it is considered the most accurate explanation of an observed phenomena, namely why objects of various masses are attracted to each other. Likewise, the theory of evolution is a theory, and not just a hypothesis, because it most effectively explains the observable process known as natural selection. Natural selection is the mechanism by which evolution occurs. And, natural selection is observable all around the world today as various organisms adapt to changes in their environments. Just as we would say someone who disputes gravity is demonstrating irrational thinking, so too then we would consider someone who disputes natural selection. Natural selection is a fact, and the theory of evolution is the most effective explanation of how it works. Thus, those who reject evolution in favor of the idea that some "supernatural being" who, to date, has competely failed to demonstrate sufficient evidence of its own existence: these folks would also be considered irrational.

This kind of irrational thinking is only problematic to the extent to which it fails to prepare us to face the crises that humanity is facing at present. Quite simply, religious thinking fails to provide modern man with the answers needed to ensure his survival. Religion then is a luxury that humanity can no longer afford.

Yes there is a difference. Evolution is based on science and can be applied to many different areas of science. For example, medical research benefits a great deal from evolution and the knowledge obtained from it. The TB bacteria has evolved to be immune to our treatments. By studying it's evolution, researchers are able to create new treatments.
Creationism is a myth that is based on a religion. Continuing belief in this view maintains ignorance and a general lack of scientific understanding. That is dangerous in an ever developing world to me.
