Dog Friendly University ? I want to find a dog friendly university in the uk do you know of one ?
I am a mature student I successfully completed the first year of my undergraduate course last year.

But unfortunately have been unable to continue with it and progress into the second year do to severe problems in finding accommodation.

The problems I have experienced in finding accommodation are due to the fact that I am the owner of a small reasonably well behaved dog that I will not give up.

Unfortunately my university's rules do not permit dogs in accommodation other than guide dogs and all the private landlords I have contacted (a large number) seem to have similar rules.

I am very keen to continue with my undergraduate study as soon as I can and need to find a new university where dogs are welcome

Do you know of a university with a more positive, understanding and enlightened attitude to dogs that would let me keep my dog and study ?

Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it and keep their dog and study if so please tell me how ?

Hi,

As someone said, it's not the uni you need to look at, it's the landlords that own the private rented accommodation that you need to look at. It's not easy to find a landlord that will allow pets, especially dogs. I've had the same problem but as I don't have a dog, I decided to wait until I finished uni before I get a dog. Anyway, some tips:

Look for properties that suit you and ask the landlord whether or not they will allow a dog to reside with you.

Be prepared to offer a bigger deposit, maybe even double the original amount.

It may be a good idea to suggest that you will have any carpets in the property steam cleaned when you leave, at your own expense.

You might also want to put in writing (contract) that you will pay for any damages that the dog may cause.

I'm not saying your dog isn't well behaved but a landlord won't know this and by doing the above, it shows that you are a responsible owner.

After you've decided what university you're going to, you should search the area for dog-friendly flats let by independent landlords. If you're looking at London, or some of the other major cities in the UK, you can try gumtree.com. They list flats/houses/flatshares in the area you're looking for. They will also say if pets are accepted.

well, i don't live in the UK so i don't know if this will be much help, but here in the US there are some websites devoted to finding dog friendly/pet friendly apartments. perhaps you could search for something like that. you might have to be willing to live somewhere a bit further off campus in order to accomodate your pup. it's great that you are so dedicated to your dog. best of luck!

I don't think its the Uni you will find a problem with its the Halls of residence. You are more likely to find accomodation with a private rented landlord with a dog.

Which Uni are you looking at ???

Hope you manage to get it sorted

attempt offering the internal maximum landlords one extra volume on your secure practices deposit to place their minds comfy approximately 'puppy harm'. additionally getting a letter/s of reference from any previous landlords on the subject of the condition you left their assets in may well be effective.
