Petsmart sells collorful wrap called belly band. It sticks to itself. I use it on a lot of spays instead of the collar. Just wrap it around the entire abdomen.

As for the ears I would start with a good cleaning to see if it is just gunk that happened to get in there.

First of all why is she wearing a collar? She needs to lick and clean up her incision. She should be pretty much sealed over on the outside by now. Take the darned thing off of her and let her clean herself up. She is probably going nuts with all the crusty stuff of her. Could take a damp cloth and wipe out her ear. Never heard of putting a Elizabethan collar on a cat for a simple spay. Take it off. She will feel so much better and be able to get back to normal. Old cat family member and lover.

I haven't had a female cat that had to wear a collar after spaying so my feeling would be that it's OK if she licks it a little. Call the vets and ask for suggestions and while you have them on the phone, ask about the ear thing also. It may just be extra ear wax.

Good luck!

My cat kept geting out of her collar. I would keep putting it back on, go to work and it would be off. I just had to watch her and make sure she didn't pull the stitches apart. If she would start to clean I would watch her and make sure she didnt start biting. She was perfectly fine. They also make a ring for cats at Petsmart. It is a air up tube to put around your cats necks. I've never tested it out but looking at the package it seems good and they don't run into thing because they can see

it doesn't matter if she runs into things. it matters that she doesn't get to that scar. do anything you can to stop her from getting that off. if she runs into things, in a week, she'll know most of the spots. the thing in her ear is just crusty yellow gunk. That probably happened because she was playing in something dangerous outside or if she's an indoor cat, it just builds up because it hasn't been cleaned just like human ear wax.

good call with the ducktape. but she will have to adjust to the collar its only a for a little while. most cats do hate it but they will adjust and running into things is normal. as for the crust she may have cut her ear or possible ear mites which your doctor can give drops tresiderm is usually give. they may also give her a shot instead of the drops .this will save u from try to catch her and hold her to get the drops in

take the collar off of her, cats are marvelous groomers, she will clean the stitch area and may even pull them out, but relax she has three layers of stitches, on layer that pulls the inner abdominal muscles together, 2nd layer pulls the outer muscles together and the 3rd merely holds the skin together. i have worked as a vet assist. for almost ten years we have never had a cat to pull the stitches holding the muscle walls together, most cat swill remove the outer stitches holding the skin together, when the owners bring them back in back in its not at all uncommon for some or all of these stitches to be gone.

the ear thing may be just build-up from being unable to clean herself.
if she is just licking her incision to clean it, that is fine. but if she wont leave it alone, put the coller back on. you'll just have to keep an eye on her.

also--is the cone a soft or hard one? i can't imagine that she'd be able to reach it if it were hard. the one i had for my cat was actually for a small dog, worked great!
