Since you ask this under the category 'engineering,' engineering students must study the basics of all engineering fields. As an ME (mechanical engineering) student I had to study electronics, electrical engineering, aeronautical, civil, hydro, chemical, biochemical plus mechanical subjects in more detail. Perhaps it would not require too much extra effort to emphasize a second field as a double. However, you should consider what would strengthen your overall resume for the type career you wish to pursue. Also consider whether you will likely seek a masters degree in a refined specialty. Also, is it likely that you will need a professional license to perform or advance? Would you consider an MBA? Do you have an academic adviser who could add insights for you, especially where you are studying? Can you get better grades with a single major rather than spread your resources too thin? You must call the shots and the sooner the better. Good luck.

Although it seems like such a big deal at the time, after you graduate, it wont really matter what your degree's "title" is, what will matter more is your knowledge and ability to use it. Take classes that you think will help you get the skills necessary for what you want to do and don't worry so much about the credits needed for a double major.

i did a double major, and while it was difficult and often stressful, it was worht it. having two majors makes you more marketable after college, and if there aren't many openings in one area, you have another field at your fingertips. just make sure both majors are something that truly interests you - if you aren't enjoying the content of your studies, you won't have the motivation to complete both majors.

You might want to consider majoring in one thing and minoring in another or majoring in your first choice and taking your second choice when you're done with the first. Double majoring can be overwhelming for some.

I did a double major [bio/psych] and i don't regret a thing. its wonderful going to a class at 9am and than at 1pm attending a whole different environment! don't spread yourself too thin though, keep your majors similar and make sure you're interested in them 100%. I think you should do it! :)

If it takes an extra year to complete (5 years), don't do it.
