Anything under 30 mph and my rpm needle seems to go haywire. As I pick up speed, the car runs smooth and back to normal. When I go to turn, it kinda feels like it wants to cut off. When I come to a stop, my takeoff is slow at first before kicking into gear.

Can anyone help before I take it to a mechanic and get charged $1000 for something that may actually cost a few bucks to fix?

Well, before you can troubleshoot, you have to make sure the normal maintenance and tune-up items have been checked. Since your car is almost ten years old, you need a new set of spark plug wires and you might as well replace the spark plugs if they have only half life remaining on them. If you have a distributor cap and rotor that haven't been changed in the last 30,000 miles, I would change those also. Make sure your other basic fluids and filters have been maintained.

If i was you i would replace the spark plugs first. Its not that hard. Do that yourself-and replace the spark plug wires, and maybe distributor cap/rotor. That kind of thing is pretty straight-foward. If by chance you get stuck look aorund the net for tips. Im no mechanic yet i do that kind of thing myself with no problems. Take care of the little things like that first-see if that helps your problem before you take your car into a shop.

this is not any longer correct, as long because of the fact the type is rated at OEM (unique kit producer). sellers frequently misguide their shoppers by utilising telling them that they are going to choose broker (Motorcraft/Delco/Ford) spark plugs in view it is how they make their funds. i've got been utilising Autolite spark plugs in my fifty 5' chevy bel air and my ninety 8' Ford ranger for years, and that they artwork the comparable if not extra suited. in simple terms make advantageous each and all of the spark plugs' gaps are set to the main stunning hollow, or you are going to be able to get misfires or undesirable gas mileage. maximum plugs in recent times are set for you so which you do no longer could desire to debris with a niche gauge.

Its really hard to say without looking at the car but it sounds like you just need a tune up. Replace your plugs and all that good stuff. Find yourself a good mechanic you can trust-even if its just someone who can give you firsthand advice on your car.
