I've got to get my house painted. I was going to use someone who only used Sherwin Williams. I'm not using him and the colors I tested are S-W. Are they good or is it personal preference? I had Behr in my bedroom. This will be formal living, dining, halls, foyer, kitchen, and family room.

If I bring the sample paints, I wonder if they could match it if I choose another brand. Who is the best but won't break the bank?

I don't like painting with Sherwin Williams paint. I think it is over priced, and it is messy. It spatters all over when you roll walls and ceilings. Behr paint is about $10 less per gallon and it doesn't spatter. I'm using it to paint MY home and have used it in others. I've also used Benjamin Moore paint. I liked it too. I painted the inside of a YWCA a couple of years ago with Benjamin Moore Super Spec. I used about 35 gallons of it. It is comparable in price to Sherwin Williams paint, but doesn't have the spatter issues.
Any good paint store has computer color matching and can match any brands colors. When choosing your colors, be sure to look at the sample cards in your home, where they will be used. Store lighting is different from the lighting at your home. This will affect how the colors look. Once you decide on a color, you can get a paint sample form stores like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. At Home Depot (they sell Behr) you may have to buy a quart. If you are paying to have someone paint your house, I recommend having them get actual sample paint and putting it on the walls. Let it dry and decide if that is the color you really want. Once paint is mixed it is not returnable.

Almost all of these answers are terrible and outdated. Sherwin-Williams has been making paint for 150years and spends more dollars on research and development than the total gross sales of Benjamin-Moore and Kelly-Moore combined. When someone tells you "the paint splatters" they are most likely using a cheap roller cover which is like buying a Ferrari and put cheap low octane gas in it. SW will always be better than Behr because you're buying from a professional who only sells paint and paint products not the high school flunky who just got moved out of plumbing and stuck in the paint dept.

To me, a contractor, uses only Sherwin-Williams paints. 99.9% of exterior paint I use is A-100. It's a great paint, adheres great and moves with your house almost like it has an elastic in it. It's great for paiting aluminum siding also and they just made it so you can paint over vinyl siding also. It is by far the best paint I ever used. It is however, costly.

I know that here in Ohio, Sherwin Williams is facing a lawsuit and I don't know if its been settled yet...Though they say their paints have been lead free for a long time, but afraid that a prosecutor had found different from cases of poisoning to children...
I've used paints at Sears that are really good and Behr is good too. It is true that it is easier to clean than most others. (Behr)....and paints from Sears are good quality.

Good luck.

Hi, I can only answer your question this way. Consumer Reports tested paints and SW can out as an excellent paint. Two conditions (1) a premixed color (one that's on their charts and not one you come in with a color swatch of) last about twice as long as a color you provide and (2) use the best grade of paint (in all brands the best lasted nearly twice as long as the lesser expensive one) when you factor time into the equation it's cheaper to use the expensive one. OH, it also cover well.

I don't think SW is a bad paint, per se. I hired a painter last year to paint the interior of my home, and he swore by Benjamin Moore Paints. The color was lovely and I received many compliments on it, including from realtors when I sold my home. I liked it so well, I had my new home painted in the same color of Benjamin Moore. I little pricier I think, but well worth it.

You would be surprised at how many of the brand names are actually produced by the large companies and different labels put on them. I have used both paints. I prefer Behr, it covers better and is easier to clean. Either works well.
