Always be aware of your surroundings. It would be great if you could take a self-defense class. Call your local police and ask them if they have information on where and when classes are available. Or the local sherriff's department. Sometimes they send an officer or detective out to do these classes to groups for no cost. (It's good PR for them)
Be especially careful and aware at night in parking lots. If there is a van parked beside you, then enter your car from the other side, or have someone with you. Trust your gut instinct. Does it matter if sometimes you may be a little paranoid? Better safe than sorry. As a matter of fact, it's best not to let anyone approach you at all in a parking lot. They may seem innocent, but just keep your face straight ahead and do not speak or let them stop you.
You can buy pepper spray at many places. It is small enough to carry in your purse or on a key chain. I bought mine at the license plate agency where I bought tags for my car. A keychain-size was about $10.00.
If you socialize, make sure you NEVER lay your drink down. THIS is a biggie! Carry it with you everywhere, even the bathroom. Date rape is a common occurance because guys will slip drugs into a girl's drink/can drink and she never knows what hit her until the next morning.

travel in groups, carry a whistle, pepper spray, a fire arm, a cell phone and take a self defense cousre

um carry a pin or something sharp and if someone attacks you stick them with the weapon and yea

you can take a self defense course...... learn martial arts......
you will learn many techinques on how to subdue the attacker.....
