Sounds like both of you could use some help with your nutrition. Just try to eat a well-balanced diet, and stop worrying about the number on the scale.

It looks like you could both start exercising together. The two of you can start to walk together. It will help him to lose weight, and if you start strength training, you will actually start gaining muscle mass (and increasing bone density - which you should be doing to prevent or stall osteoporosis).

Good luck!

That is great that he is willing to lose weight. I would say make sure when you prepare the meals you don't make too much. Do not make enough for him to have second helpings and do not buy any junk food at all. Suggest he keep a glass out at all times and he drinks lots of water. Also see if he will lift some weights and do some cardio. 225 at 6 feet is not bad really so even if he drops 15 pounds he will feel great.

Stick to the basics that you need to keep from being hungry and cover the 5 food groups as much as possible.

1. good assortment of fresh veggies when possible
2. some fresh fruits when possible
3. lean meats, concentrating on fish and chicken
4. milk (skim or 1% is better)
5. 100% whole wheat breads
not too heavy of the bad starches. pastas, etc. these are the ones that are so delicious.

When cooking, don't used enriched flour or corn meal.
Stay away from the bad fats as much as possible.
When you go to a restaurant, it's hard to be good. Don't go too often.
If you don't know the good and bad things. Check out Dr. Oz online. He has it all there and tells you why. Just key in his name. If you haven't heard of him; he's been of Oprah's Show. You can also access him on her web site. But, he has his own.
Eating right and good can be fun. Maybe, you'll gain a little and he'll loose some. He doesn't seem too much over-weight. Don't get too thin.

He's a grown man....tell him to cook his own dinner and you can do likewise. If he was single he'd have to do that and so would you anyway. If that doesnt work...put up and shut up (ie dont nag him to death). He may die sooner so you can find a healthier specimen then.....or take on a lover now who puts out. You are not his mother...its up to him to attract you. If he doesnt want to....then he's half out the door already.
