There is a documentary about it on the discovery channel on March 4th. Check your local listings for more details. And before you start listening to the Rantings of the uneducated. watch the Documentary for yourself. Do fact checking yourself and search for the answers yourself. Alot of people say its fake but they have no Archeological training and they haven't watched the Documentary yet. When I was in Jerusalem earlier this year i talked to some local Jewish Archeologists and many of them feel that it is really the true resting place of Jesus and his family. Sadly most Christians don't agree with this because it contradicts their fantasy stories.

First announced in 1980, the discoverers claim to have found a "bone box" that contains the bones of Jesus in a suburb outside of Jerusalem. Also a box lableled for "Mary" and another labeled "Judah the son of Jesus". They are part of a large cemetary uncovered in the late 70's and early 80s. The cemetary appears to have been in use for about 200 years, ending in the early 70s AD, when the Romans destroyed Jersualem.
When first announced in 1980, the find was not only dismissed by secular scholars, but actually considered a fraud. It appears that the name on the "Jesus" box was actually the name "Huran" and had been altered.
When the discoverers tried to sell the bones again in 1996, DNA testing (not available in the 80s) showed that the "Judah son of Jesus" bones were not related to either the Jesus or Mary bones.
The name "Jesus" was very common during that period. Besides Jesus Christ, there are three other Jesus mentioned in the New Testament. Besides Mary Magalene, there are five other Marys mentioned in the New Testament. And the name Judah (Jude, Judas) was so common that 4 of Jesus' 12 disciples had it as part of their name - including the one who betrayed Jesus. (Do you really name your son after the person who tried to kill you?). In that cemetary alone, there were 71 other boxes founded with the name "Jesus" on them.
As common as the names were, with no last names, in a large cemetary used for nearly two centuries, that odds of find a "Jesus" and a "Mary" and a "Judah son of Jesus" buried near each other are so high, that to NOT find them would be newsworthy.
But lets say this is the Bible Jesus. Why would he and his family be buried there? Jesus was from the northern country of Judea, not Jerusalem. Mary also came from that region. His family (mother and brothers) were located in Judea. Logically after his death, he would have been buried near his home and family, not in Jerusalem hundreds of miles away. Those who deny a bodily resurrection claim that Jesus survived the crucifixion and left Jerusalem (and Israel) which is why he disappears from history. Why would he have come back there to be buried?
As far as the tomb of Jesus, it was found a long time ago. Maps and drawings of it have been available since the first century. A shrine was build over the site in the early second century. A full church in the early 300s, when the death penalty for being a Christian was removed. Unlike the "bone box" which simply says "Jesus" (and might be altered from saying Huran), this tomb has the name of Jesus the son of Joseph from Nazareth who is called the Christ. It matches the scriptures in that it is an underground tomb sealed with a large boulder (not buried like the other).
So the tomb of Jesus was "found" 2000 years ago, and has been visited by thousands of people every year since that time. nd it is empty. The body is gone.
The "discovery" of these bones has only reappeared after 27 years because james Cameron (of Titanic fame) was one of the people involved in putting together a new (revisited from the 1996 British TV show) show about them that will air next week on the Discovery channel.

I'm like you...this was news to me, too, so I did a search on "Jesus tomb"....seems His bones have been "discovered" all over the place! Every so often somebody discovers His body somewhere or other...
I have to wonder why the guy who found the box that was supposed to belong to James, Jesus' brother, didn't mention the rest of the family down there? How did he miss such an important find...till this Hollywood film maker comes along and one-ups him...does this sound logical?
So, I'll watch the documentary, but like someone else said, I'll have a box of salt with me.

As interesting as it would be if this were true, I'd treat it with a healthy sense of skepticism. First, Internet searches return primarily chat room talk and no major Archaeological Journal reports or articles. Second, this discovery was made around 30 years ago with the translations being complete around 20 years ago.
I'll watch the show on Discovery, but probably will not give it much weight.

10 ostuaries (boxes containing bones in a burial site) were found with names matching those of the family of Jesus in 1980. There is a documentary about to be aired on the Discovery Channel concerning this, as they believe this may contain the actual bones of the person to whom the bible refers as Jesus of Nazareth, his mother and father, his wife and son, and at least one brother.
It's an interesting find to say the least.
You can find more at discovery.com on this subject.

Two boxes were found. The bones in them were immediately reburied, so no one has done or will do DNA testing. Testing would be irrelevant anyway because no one has a vial with Jesus DNA for matching.
The boxes had some names on them: Jesus, Marianne, Judah. These were incredibly common names at the time, like Joe, Linda, Bob today. Nothing can be determined to be a fact from this.
This type of hoax appears every couple of years. It's always baloney, bologna, whichever spelling you prefer.

The resurrection idea is from Greek mythology, physicians and healers were given this sort of power. If someone is at the brink of death and are brought back to health by a technique people of course will be amazed and write mythologies. Of course Jesus was just another ordinary god/mortal like everyone, that's his message. God is just an ordinary guy but when people find out they are amazed

James Cameron (producer of Titanic, Aliens, and The Terminator) is doing a show on Discovery Channel soon. He believes a tomb was found in Jerusilum which stated "James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus" holds the body of Jesus' brother. Along with that, a mother and father's bodies were found, a brother, a man, a woman (supposedly Mary Magdalene) and Jesus supposed son Judah!
Christians are going to go NUTS

No one has found the bones Of Jesus Christ, This is a trick of atheists, sceince, Unbelievers, Agnostics, & so on, trying to deny the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Satan has done everything to pollute the minds of people, & to deny that Christ rose from the dead, Even many religious leaders are now even denying that Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus Christ did rise fom the dead as did all OT saints when Jesus also rose, those OT saints came with Jesus Christ & they all were taken up to heaven. I don't care one bit what Sceince or anyone else say that they found Jesus Bones, That is a LIE from Satan. Rev. 19:14 shows Jesus & his Bride coming back to earth to rule & reign for 1000 yrs. The bible also said if Christ be not risen, then are we still in our sins, But by his resurection we are saved to them that believe upon his word.

James Cameron (of Titanic fame) is apparently going to be unveiling the coffins of Jesus, Mary and Mary Magdalene... apparently with the bodies inside. Discovery Channel will be presenting a special documentary about it in March. A bunch of hype and hoopla for a hoax, if you ask me.
