More than likely, that was a human convention, borrowed from having to bow/kneel before kings.
And anyway, if a person does pray, there's really NO REASON, no compulsion to make ANY kind of change in posture, because God is supposedly omnicient, and can read your thoughts. That would suggest that we have a built-in two-way ESP communicator. We don't have to speak, we don't have to do anything.
Theoretically...if God is omnicient, the mute can communicate with him, too.

Bowing your heads is a display of respect. This is the creator of all things. Yes, he is a friend, but you have to give him his props.
Plus, if this is a complaint that you have, you are REALLY missing the big picture. Know who you are dealing with.

Who said you had to bow your head,that is just an old,old,old tradition that was passed down. God doesn't care if your standing on your head ,or sitting on the john when you talk to him.

It's a sign of respect.. I wonder why you choose to bow happily to a president or a queen, or even your lover; while bowing to God troubles you...?

To demonstrate humility. We subjugate ourselves to the holiness of God. We are his servants. We are not equal to God, and we are not friends with him. He is our 'father', our parent, and we humble ourselves in his presence. Humility helps us to reduce our ego and follow a path that is of a higher spiritual nature. The same principle is taught in 12-step programs. Tame the ego.

i think the concept of bowing our heads is more of a respect. We bow our heads to devote all of our thoughts and feelings directly to the lord. This is not about being friends with the lord, it's about having wholehearted respect to him.

That shows our humbleness before our God, Because he is worthy to be praised. It also shows our obedience to God, & our thankfulness for what he done for us. It shows Gods Kingship.

There are no set "rules" about what position to pray in. Heck, you can pray in the bathtub, or while driving to work...I do it all the time...

we dont have to bow our heads, but we do as a sign of love , respect and adoration since he DID DIE FOR OUR SINS.
